RAF Reg, you can see the mudguard
I assume @Mozza663 was talking about the guy in blues directly behind Two-Tier between 0:35 to 0:45? There’s no mudguards on blues. Also, mudguards don’t necessarily rule out CFAV. </spotter pedantry>
New CAA rule updates:
Thanks Mike,
Some of the changes here and more importantly changes made to the training qualifications have seen us have to significantly adjust our syllabii for cadets and CFAVs. Honestly a bit of a nightmare. But we are getting there.
We are going to be able to provide the newest qualifications to our CFAV and cadets through a network of regional instructors. The work to train these is, as you may be aware, is well underway.
This maybe suited to general chat but does the reduction down to 100g affect all the YouTube auditors with their 249g drones?
Yes. Essentially it means a toy now. If you have mini drone with a camera of any type it’s now out of scope. If I were to guess, it’s been done to prevent exactly the activity you describe.
I’m not going to cut & paste the CAA’s explanation as it is covered in the link shared above, but it’s safety, clarity and to encourage industry to make it easier to identify if a drone is a ‘toy’ or not.
Some manufacturers have pushed the limit of 250g to the point where adding a different battery or even prop guards could exceed it.
From a pro user point of view, it’s the right call.
I have seen auditor videos where coppers have weighed the drone just to be sure.
you mention motor skills,
there is something that can be done in a classroom environment, good for during dark winter months, simulating drone controls.
Most of the RC transmitter units have a port to help run in trainer mode. The same port can be used to change it into a PC peripheral, much like a joystick.
People in the FPV space will recommend exactly this, helps to develop muscle memory. Pressing reset on a sim is free.
Do you have any links/examples?
We have just bought a number of these to trial. If you ask the RPAS TTO nicely he may allow you to have a go!!
If you have a DJI RC2 controller a new update was pushed today where they a simulator program inbuilt in the controller which allows you to practice flights and actions of a DJI UAV as a standalone device, you don’t need to contect to the internet or the actual drone itself to operate the sim
I think DJI might be banned.
Not banned, just restricted as to where they can be used. The majority of our training drones are DJI and have the RC2 controller as it happens. But I don’t see this being widely adopted due to the problems it presents with security on sites, especially some AGS.
