UAS/RPAS (‘Drones’) on squadron

Apologies misread it. Logic still applies though

I just think we need to remove as much CI vs Uniformed barriers and have the right people hold roles regardless of what colour uniform at the end of the day.

And thats coming from a drill monkey! Id let a CI teach drill if it was taught correctly.

lol agreed, just wanted to make sure we’re focusing on the right stuff.

This is, as highlighted by others, perceived as a “sub-optimal” decision. If the logic & background processes to this decision can’t be explained on this forum (& I see no reason why this isn’t possible), then a formal notification needs to be issued so that CFAVs can understand why CIs are being blocked off.

This might pre-empt the inevitable FOI.

Has anyone actually asked yet on Value our Volunteer to challenge this yet?

This then give the issue wider awareness on formal channel, requires a formal response from the decision maker, & maybe gives @Hercules the evidence & the hook to challenge things higher up the chain.

But until someone does we just put Hercules in the situation of saying “I can’t comment on this as it’s not a formal military channel “ hint hint

Has anyone in SW seen anything about this or is this just a wing comms issue, I’m only hearing about this team on here.

Or @Hercules is it just 1 region that is being set up with a team currently?

I’ve not seen anything about looking for instructors for RPAS activity.

Nope, not made it to me.

All regions were sent details.

Trickle down comms, strikes again.

Calling Notice is out for 12 CFAV to attend a RPAS Pilot A2 CofC and GVC course 16th - 18th May.

20250303-CALLING NOTICE -RPAS Course-MAY 25

My favourite part of this is noting the willingness to wear MTP PCS as the PPE of choice, yet the dress for the course is civilian attire…

That did make me laugh

I noticed that too . . . and then there’s nothing in the Operations Manual about wearing MTP

As any police person will tell you bump caps are not rated to protect people from head injury by falling objects or other impacts.

If you read the disclaimer that comes with them you are better off wearing a cycling helmet. Even a woolly hat with a bobble gives greater protection.

As PPE should be supplied free of charge by the employer, what is the process of obtaining these items from stores? :lab_coat: :crown: :dark_sunglasses:

It’s not for that risk. Look at the RA which is on the 2 FTS website. Having worn them for many moons whilst using police drones, it wasn’t for that there either.

MTP is being using to mitigate another risk on the RA in relation to a specific drone. As only instructors will be using or demoing this, only they need to be willing to wear it.

Your RAvnO has all the detail on how that can be achieved with the stock numbers etc.

We are providing it as needed.

They’re very useful in places like in my work mezzanine where your head is all up in the rafters and there’s lots of stuff to hit your head on! :stuck_out_tongue:

Not very useful outdoors in a field, unless you’re working out of a car boot and worried about hitting your head on it!

It’s part of the hand launch and recovery ppe requirements. But as we’ve trialled the courses and limited flying, we don’t see a need for this, so it’ll disappear at the next manual update.

MTP is for another reason and that is an activity that’s not taught by the third-party on these courses, hence civvies. But will be required for RAFAC use and will be covered as a bolt on.
