My understanding is that the US & Venezuela still abide by the Vienna Convention regarding diplomatic immunity, even though they had no diplomatic ties directly.
What do this last week’s actions mean for diplomats of any country present in the US?

It would be quite something to watch narratives blow in the wind on that one.
I thought all the hype around those aircraft flying over this week was just nonsense media stuff. But maybe there was more to it, and the US is going to take another tanker, this time nowhere near the US.

I think we need to be careful of attributing everything to Trump - there seems to be a whole culture at the top of the US government who live in their own world. I wonder if Trump has some saner people around him things wouldn’t be as crass & chaotic.
An example is this morning where White House aids talk about Greenland & talk about military actions & then mark Rubio comes in as says the US would be looking to purchase rather than anything as dramatic.

It appears to be a classic cult of power. Speak out against the Glorious Leader and there’ll be consequences, so the minions keep in line and become desperate to be seen as the most loyal ones.
I have found myself wondering what all this means for the polarity of the world. Until recently, we were a unipolar geopolitical world under US leadership, with an emergent second pole in China and their seemingly increasing Sinosphere of influence.
But what we’re actually seeing is the same principles driving both the US and Russia simultaneously now, with China aligning similarly. It would take more words than I have available on this forum to use, but I’m now seeing a unipolar world that mimics Cerberus and traditional Realism beginning to become the overarching geopolitical mantra.

but they were his minions before his second term. he appointed in his friends, family and supporters regardless of their (lack of) qualification or experience to do the job. they were already flying his flag - so it is no wonder they still support him as they haven’t done any differently for the last 18+ months
it occurred to me last night watching the 10pm news, the world’s security is based on NATO’s stability - and NATO is only as “Stable” as the POTUS approach to world stability.
that stability is being rocked right now by POTUS and so throwing NATO and by consequence the world’s stability into doubt
It’s an entire movement. They wrote a manual for it and everything.
He’s a willing part of it, and the problem will outlast him.
