Trump's Second Term Chat

I genuinely don’t understand why people - here and elsewhere - are talking about international law like it’s a thing.

It’s gone. It’s dead. You may as well talk about implementing League of Nations resolutions, and whether X sqn member is in line for a civic decoration from the Kingdom of Prussia.

This is deluded old men, spivs and and unhinged Countesses in shabby hotel rooms in London and Paris sending out press releases declaring war and peace in the name of monarchies that haven’t existed for 30 years.

All there is is power. That’s it. Adjust, or die in a shabby hotel room wearing fantasy decorations and using titles made up on the back of a cornflakes packet, while the tanks roll down the street.

Is there a source for this?

I don’t not believe it, but I can’t find any reference to it in Latin press so far.

The Twitter source doesn’t look to be A1.

This could quickly become a teaching point into how not to deal with Trump.

He said it a couple of months back.

That makes sense now; I thought it was from today as that’s when Twitter posted it as if it was new. Explains why I couldn’t find it.

Ultimately he’s not wrong though.

Can someone explain like I’m 5 how the US has gone to another country, kidnapped someone and the indicted them for breaking US laws in New York, despite this person having not been in the US?

Did you ever read Enid Blyton….?

The Americans almost always apply their laws to anyone regardless of location, given no due respect to national sovereignty unless it suits their interests. Sadly, this is far from new.

The US argues that Madura doesn’t enjoy the protections of a legitimate head of state as he lost the election to the Nobel peace prize winner.

As much as I like the idea of tin pot dictators not being able to hide behind Westphalia conventions, it’s a dangerous precedent considering the way certain people keep questioning Zelenskyy’s legitimacy.

Plenty of our criminal laws here have extra-territorial effect. Murder is a key one, rape, strangulation.

We don’t often carry out armed interventions to enforce those laws, however.

That aspect is less common, but it does answer that aspect of the query.

Maybe this is next…

This is why people need to stop defending this or playing it down.

This could be next, Taiwan could be next, Ukraine can continue… etc

It’s easy to dismiss this stuff as hysterical, but this guy is ramping up the insanity and giving other nations permission.
