Trial for transfer of part worn MTP from the RAF to the RAF Air Cadets

ACLI 213

Well this is a promising development. Looks like we are going to trial having part worn MTP be transferred over to us to use. Only a trial at the moment, albeit a pretty wide reaching one.

A potentially very positive step forward!

Seems a good idea and I hope it’ll work. But I’m still very confused how those in eligible wings actually request the kit? Who do I need to go begging to?

Our squadron is not in one of the wings included in the trial, but that doesn’t matter because the local Army Reserve unit give us mountains of MTP kit for free every couple of months.

can you post which wings are eligible, still no bader access for me :smiling_face_with_tear:

Given that BZN stores is now closed to RAFAC, SW region foiled again.

It’s amazing how many official sources in the ATC get BandG Wing’s name wrong.
It’s GLOUCESTERSHIRE!

Given that Bristol is in Gloucestershire, wouldn’t it be easier to just call it Gloucestershire Wing and avoid the confusion?

I think technically Bristol is South of Gloucestershire, rather than in it? It is it’s own county. But we may end up in that county debate again pretty quickly!

No, it isn’t a county (counties corporate were/are just about the administration of local government). The Avon is the border of Gloucestershire and Somerset and so Bristol spans both, but historically I think it started in Gloucestershire and spread south.

Looking into it, Bristol is similar to the whole East/West Sussex problem. It was part of the historical split between Somerset and Gloucestershire, then become a county corporate, which as you say, is administrative.

A quick Google seems to show at one point it was also its own county as the county of Avon, but that was overturned pretty quickly when they became the unitary authority of Bristol, which is now also classed as a ceremonial county.

Now where’s that Map Men link that tries to explain the chaos that is our County system?

Bristol is a County in it’s own right now.
But also, the Wing includes basically all of what was Avon, so it’s actually at least 5 counties: Bristol, Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire

Before you cartophiles get too excited or anyone starts talking about annexing Clevedon, Portishead, and Nailsea, shall we get back to MTP provision?
