Trf sewing

How do you sew on a trf to mtp

Is this a PCS shirt with the arm plates or a barrack shirt without the arm plates?

The location is in the dress regs if that’s what you’re after.

If you mean where… the middle of the right blanking plate at an angle that makes it straight on your arm.

If you mean how… with a needle and thread is the best bet.

Either a carpet needle (really thick ones) or a sewing machine

I don’t know about that a pritt stick normally does the job for me, or blu tack if I’ve run out of that

If you’re near an RAF base, take a packet of biscuits to the Squippers

Any measurements for CS95 though as I just had one come through for my shirt and smock

1358c says the top of the badge should be 7.5cm from the shoulder seam. Downwards that is, don’t want to be responsible for you sewing it to your neck or something…

@A400m Equal on each side of arm crease I assume?

Right down the middle of the crease. Might be easier to iron out the crease, sew, then iron the crease back in through the middle of the badge

The best advice I can give for hand-sewing badges is this:

  1. It’s easy.
  2. Stitch from the right side of the garment and just pick up the edges of the badge. Don’t try to push the needle all the way through to the wrong side and then all the way back to the right side again. That so-called “stab stitching” is why people find it so difficult.

This applies just as well to sewing badges onto blanking plates… Just pick up the fabric - don’t try to sew all the way through the velcro backing as well.
