TRF Position Confusion

Afternoon all, can someone help me…

Image 1 shows page 124 from AP1358C from version 1.03 which was released in November 2013. It shows the RAF/ATC/CDT TRF’s positioning at the top of the blanking patches with the top right corner contacting the edge.

Image 2 shows page 124 from AP1358C from version 1.04 which was released in December 2013. This version shows the RAF/ATC/CDT TRF’s positioning centrally of the blanking patches.

The staff and cadets including myself have positioned our TRF as shown in image 1. However, image 2 now only states: “TRF moves down so lower corners meet edgeif para wings are worn” – “Maroon colour on right, (affixed centrally to the blanking plate). It does not mention where the TRF is worn if there a no para wings. But, the image shows the TRF centrally of the blanking patch.

My question is this:
Do we wear the TRF as per image 1 if no para wings are worn or do we wear the TRF as per image 2, again if no para wings are worn?

Hmmmm, good question. good use of color! I would have to agree with you. This is a tad ambiguous.

Touching the top. Unless you like jumping out of Hercs with your house, then it’s touching the bottom (matron), under your fluffy fairy wings.

Seems perfectly clear to me. The pictures in image 2 show where it should be worn sans wings, so I would say it should be in the centre. Looks better anyway. Up to you though - as an ACF instructor it makes no difference to me.

Put it this way: What would you do if you had never seen the first image?

Seems clear to me too.

Decembers amendment supersedes Novembers issue. Hence the red writing to show what’s changed.

The TRF (and JL flash) are to be worn centrally on both blanking plates.

Also it states that the “TRF moves down so lower corners meet edge of blanking plate if para wings are worn”. i.e the TRF’s bottom left corner should be touching the 8 o’clock position of the blanking plate if you have parawings.

Or have I got that totally wrong?

I know I said it up above, but I’ll repeat it: it goes at the top. The newer picture is wrong.

Station tailors at Cranwell are issuing them as per picture one. I for one am not messing around moving them because someone has decided to change a picture over. Was enough faff getting them in the right place in the first place.

Talon, If you actually read our dress regulations you can see why there is some confusion.

All the RAF TRF’s I have seen are at the top like in picture 1.

Then the text is also wrong. Doesn’t seem a very helpful “update”.

I was merely working on the information supplied.

What people seem to be forgeting is that we follow AP1358C not AP1358 in my mind we should be going by picture 2 as it is the latest edition of 1358C not only that but if we all have them in the middle everyone will be the same with or with out Para wings. However if we do it as in picture 1 we will have to different positions for the TRF in the ACO

Where AP1358C disagrees with or contradicts AP1358, do what AP1358 says until the inevitable amendment.

Besides, I follow AP1358.

Except that it’s still clear that with Para wings worn the badge goes at the bottom, not the middle, so there would be differing positions.
Secondly, if the RAF aren’t worried about those different positions dependant on wings, then why should we be?

It states: ‘TRF moves down…IF para wings worn’

If this sentence is interpreted correctly it implies that the badge moves down if you have wings, if not, it stays up.

That would be moved down from the central position as shown.
