Treble tapped dms shoes

I am wondering if I can get my dms shoes treble tapped, as long as the metal work on the bottom is covered as ‘ferrous metal’ cannot be worn in dangerous areas. I plan to beeswax my shoes, which will require being treble tapped to reduce creasing and cracking of the wax.

DMS won’t take the full metal application on the bottom, just quarter heel and toe. The sole material won’t take it.

You need a set of proper Oxfords if you need full metalwork!

Do you mean treble soled? That was a typical DI modification to leather Oxford shoes so that (a) the toe area wouldn’t flex for beeswaxing & (b) to add the required metalwork to the shoe. Treble tapped = the metal plates used on dancing shoes??

I had 2 such pairs when an instructor at DIOT (2 extra layers of sole leather added = 3 in total, beeswaxed, with horse shoe heels + toe tips) - but regardless of shoe type, I can’t really see how you will be able to “hide” any metalwork on the soles/heels.

I realise now that the rubber sole of dms shoes cannot be treble tapped (yes, treble soled). And as for the metalwork, I have been told that it probably could be covered, however the heel plate is important as it prevents wearing of the heel.

Never ever saw anyone attempt to cover up steel tips on any type of military shoe - & to avoid ‘ferrous metal’ in dangerous areas, then if aircraft were involved, any such covers would be a FOD hazard. Same for segs (small metal “hammer-in” pieces of metal). Go the whole hog, & get ammo boots!

You can get non-metal heel sections with the “impact” area made from a different material, more hard-wearing than rubber BUT the cost of such repairs/modifications is only worth it if you have expensive shoes.
