Hi, I’m wondering if anybody out there can help satisfy my curiousity.
I have been with the ATC for almost a year and transferred over from the RMC as a Sgt with 9yrs service along with several qualifications and transferable skills.
Would I be able to keep my service record so that it goes towards my CFM and would I also keep my same rank, or would my rank change due to my previous service record?
Don’t know about your rank but your service should certainly count towards your CFM.
ACP20 PI301 Para 11 to 13 considers this aspect (promotion to rank for certain persons). Normally it only applies to candidates who are ex-regs or reserves. However there’s the chance that the same applies to CFAVs. An application should be made to the Regional Commandant who will apply to HQAC SO3 for consideration. However, since you have been in the ACO for 1 year now, i am guessing you are a CI. You may as well just apply for the post of Sgt via the normal chain, then ask for consideration of seniority from the same process. That means it could short cut the 4 year wait to Flight Sergeant (or even direct promotion to FS or WO). It depends on how good you are. If nothing else, it would give you X years seniority in post. Notwithstanding this, your years service in the RMC will count from the age of 18. It then “marks time” until you put a uniform back on.
Thanks for the information guys. I have my interview soon regarding going into uniform. I shall keep you posted as to what happens!!
Be careful re the CFM. As I understand it you have to do 12 years continuous service for the medal. Any break and you start again, unless someone persuades those at HQAC it was outside your control (what they will consider is limited) and they take a sympathetic view. Going NEP also means you may have to start again. Once you have the medal you can break service and then add total service to count towards any bar.
What constitutes a “break in service” is very specific. There are a number of permitted exceptions…
