Training programme ideas

We have recently had an NCO meeting and it was mentioned that our training officer wanted input on what we can do on parade nights. What are some more interactive things you do at your squadrons that we could do in winter?

I don’t know the resources you have but one way to start is to look at the training your cadets are currently doing and see where something more hands on or interactive could add to it. Then see if there’s a way to build a competitive element into the session.

Something else that can work is combining different training strands, for example having a group tell another how to build a balsa glider over the radio, or finding materials for a first aid kit using some of the nav skills they’ve been taught.

Good luck and do share what you come up with!

Ive actually been through all this myself as the training officer for my squadron.More than happy to help if you message me any questions you have and happy to share our training progranme.

Although not a strict timeline we tend to fall into roughly quarters around the seasons

Winter - Dec/Jan/Feb - - The winter months tend to be catching up on classifications (usually a new intake in Jan) shooting and first aid training, flight sim etc

Sping - March/Apr/May- More Drill in the lighter months but also a balance of fieldcraft and sports evenings and prep for Wing Competition day etc

Summer - Jun/July/Aug- Due to the school holidays and camps, we have a summer social start of July arranged by NCO team, paper plates awards etc usually fairly casual, bbq or similar.

Autumn - Sept/Oct/Nov - November would be Remembrance prep - Sept brings in the new intake with also prep for Battle of Britain parade - Band practices and drill along with classifications to break it up a little

Thank you this really helps.
