Hi, I’ve been a sgt for about a year and a half and looking for promotion to flight sergeant. Does anyone have any tips or any information on what is expected to get FS??

Usually a few courses, as a Sgt you should have a good working relationship with staff and they’ll know you like climbing the ladder, so don’t be afraid to ask them.

From speaking to other people, really put yourself out there and show that you are ready for the promotion. Also yes, don’t be afraid to ask even if it is subtlety hinting like, “What are the criteria to become a FS?”.

Go and ask your OC for feedback on what to work on for consideration for FS. Will show you’re serious and keen.

Make sure your “on the radar” for all the right reasons.Have a good attendance record although I know that can be difficult with school work exams.You should be well known to your staff and most especially your O.C.
Staff should if they are doing the right thing be feeding back anything of note to your O.C and as has been mentioned make sure you get on or apply for courses.As a Sgt your classed as a middle manager.So make sure your up to speed with some of the admin burden too(SMS Badet etc).
Make it so your impossible to ignore and the message will soon get across that your THE person when the next vacancy comes up.Good luck.
