Was there any reason why this wouldn’t of happened though? As I thought this would of been automatic when he became King?

It’s a strange one. And while yes they are the escort to the King’s Colour now, in the past some formations have kept their original titles - for example King’s Troop RHA. But I think it needed to change as we are unlikely to have a Queen again in any of our lifetimes.

There was some suggestion that they would retain the QCS title just like Kings Troop RHS as a mark of respect and remembrance.

Technically if someone wanted to split hairs we do & will have another queen in the rest of our lifetime IE HM The Queen (Camilla) as Queen Consort what we are unlikely to have in our lifetime is is a Queen regnant IE as Her Late Majesty was.

King’s troop kept its name at the request of Queen Elizabeth, it’s now up to King Charles to make his own decisions.

It was never an option to keep the QCS name, as the name refers to the fact that the Sqn is the designated escort for the reigning monarchs colour for the RAF. If the reigning monarch is a king, then the Sqn is the escort to the Kings Colour. Personally, I reckon they should have gone with Sovereigns colour squadron in a cheeky effort to get the lads a cheap deal on carpets and sofas.
