The Queen’s Medals

Could anyone tell me what the medals are that The Queen is wearing in this photo please?

She probably has a 1939-45 war service and defence medals at 2&3,

The Boss would wear the medals awarded to her before her Coronation:

Order of the Crown of India
Defence Medal
War Medal 1939 - 1945
King George V Silver Jubilee Medal
King George VI Coronation Medal
Canadian Forces Decoration

She is also wearing the Order of the Garter I believe.

I understand why she wouldn’t wear any British medals after her coronation as they’re awarded in her name but hasn’t she been awarded any recognised international medals since then?

Yes she is well blinged up.

Interesting to see that she got LSGC Medals for all three services with 5 bars in 2016 too!

She may have Common wealth medals, but again they are all awarded in her name as the head of state. And, much like the Nijmegen Medal, we only recognise a small number of international medals so it may not be appropriate for them to be worn. However, I believe depending on the event the Boss will wear different orders and badges.

The photo shows her after her coronation on Trooping the Colour, so she definitely did.

I think he meant awarded after the coronation. Which is why she doesn’t have her own jubilee medals

I did indeed. Apologies if that’s not clear.

Looks like the Order of the Thistle on this occasion. Whilst it’s possible for multiple stars to be worn (HM is probably only wearing one due to space) only a single sash is worn. Usually the most senior (ie. Garter) but sometimes more appropriate one is worn. Possibly on this occasion it was the Scots Guards trooping their Colour?

Good spot! You are right.

I would if I were her - earned them more than those actually awarded them if you think about it!

Heads of State giving themselves medals is very Soviet
