I’ve now signed up to Claude… I down it better than ChatGPT but the session limits make a membership almost mandatory if to be used.
Today Mr Claude has been helping me map out my career.
Bit late to this but £879 for the base model. Better value at £938 with the controller.
Not as cheap as I hoped but cheaper than I feared.

How is it vs copilot (unless you’ve not used that) and how much do you get out of a session?
I think they’ve done quite well considering the “not at a loss" model.
Single channel RAM for productivity tasks is a blow, but if you look at it as a gaming box for casual / couch play it still feels competitive enough against consoles now those have gone up, with the added benefit of cheaper games.
Should still capture a decent amount of people.
Agreed, I was hoping it would be in the £600 ballpark but accept that isn’t realistic now. Even Apple have increased prices.
Problem for Valve is I woudn’t buy one at the asking price, I’m likely to spend the money on upgrading my current rig’s GPU rather than getting a ‘nice to have’ box for the lounge. Suspect I won’t be alone.

Yeah they’ll lose some of their demographic on that basis, but anyone that isn’t already a PC gamer…
So I use copilot at work, and it’s useful as it has access to all of my data - but it uses the chat got models.
So far I’ve found Claude has been giving better outputs.
They are currently fighting each other to build out my new job description.

Ditto. I was holding out to make these my “plug in and forget” machines for the squadron. Nice and easy to wheel small gaming desks from room to room for drone sim training and other good software packages.
Would people say it’s still a sound investment for that? Even better if the Chrome for education thing works without taking over SteamOS.
Would need to partition and dual boot.
I haven’t done any hardware or cost comparisons recently. Something I previously had an eye on was the potential of a budget gaming laptop, though the prices I was looking at was around 8-900 before component inflation.
Part of the value is ease of use, “not windows”, and native Steam provided whatever software and games you want are compatible with the hardware and Proton. Whether it makes sense for your use case is going to depend on a comparison against other suitable hardware… which also will have gone up in cost.
For Sqn use at that budget I’d look at gaming laptops. Even with the price rises there are some decent options around the £700-800 mark and of course screen etc is extra on the Steam Machine.

I wonder how much optimisation will matter (similar to Mac software and hardware harmonisation).
Certainly it not being windows was a huge sell for me — the ease of a console without so many of the limitations that consoles impose.

I’ve only used the free Claude for the moment…
Initial thoughts are that it is leagues above the others (free versions at least) in advancing the building blocks I already have (mainly various financial calculators around different tax things) but the free limit seems to be hit very quickly.
As I pay for Microsoft anyway then copilot makes sense for integration but I’d love to use Claude to automate more of my work letting me do the parts of my job that I enjoy !
I hit the limit, hence purchasing.
Claude has been helping me write a new job spec for me.
So, with a little help from Claude, I have a working Power Automate flow that once a cadet bids for an activity it routes to the OC / Adj / Training Officer for one of them to approve and support the cadet’s attendance.
At the end the cadet & Parent/Guardian, will receive an email confirmation that their application has been received.

So, you’ve reinvented the bidding process from SMS?
You could say that but… I need Additional information for this activity so the cadet has to complete an MS Form at point of bid to give me that.
This flow then means that the sqn can either support or not support the application - required by ACP 18 for weapons training and gives the sqns an input which is a common complaint.
It means that at the end of the bidding window I don’t need to check with sqn staff if the cadets are suitable - what is missing is a priority system for the bids from your sqn.

Eligibility checks, priority, and multi-activity has always been a ball ache.

And going via the parent who confirms availability and ability to get them to an event, prior to the OC having to do anything.
