Tech and AI Geekery

I think, from some time ago, when I had a MS issue - the Apple tech people in the store said, “Not us chief, you need to get in touch with them…..”

Thanks. That logs-in - which proves account sign-in - the MS 365 Personal will probably do the trick. Need somehow to dig into whatever MS account I have the previous subscription (if any!) to make sure I cancel it (probably linked to a credit card?)….

On the old Mac, depending on the version of Office you have, you should just be able to click on the home / start screen from any Office app.

On the left it should show your initials in a circle, click that and it’ll show the email address linked to the Microsoft account.

Then it should be just a matter of going on to the Microsoft site and logging in or resetting the password.

Thanks - I’ll give that a whirl.

Well, I couldn’t get anything via that route, as no “home” as such to link to.

From Word, I tried the drop-down menu options, for the top-left corner, no luck, & then finally, chose - “About Microsoft Word.” That was successful in pulling up an email address that I don’t even remember using, it has to be that old! It also shows “Microsoft 365 Subscription” = gotta find that! Now I need to try & sign in somewhere with that old email; the one I used to sign-in to Word was my normal email address, so clearly there is an alias linked somehow

Within that pop-up window, it gives me a device ID, but more importantly a Licence ID.

There is also a clickable button saying “Refresh Licence” - do I , or don’t I?!?

Tried to log-in to Outlook using that old email = showed an account recovery email ypXXXXXX@rambler.ru Looks dodgy to me - ype, a Russian broswer & webmai! Just run through the MS account recovery information answers that I can (wild guess at passwords)…..

Very quickly:

Unfortunately, we have determined that the information you provided was not sufficient for us to validate your account ownership.

B*gger!

Separately, tried out accounts with Outlook (under other email addresses) to check on subscription payments = those I have tried show no payments.

Sounds like I am in MS limbo…….

The ‘Home’ screen is the one that comes up on my old version of Word on the old Intel Mac, I think it is Word 16.5x. But it shouldn’t matter if you have the email used for the user ID.

I think the next best step is to try to use that email to log into the Microsoft Account page and try to reset from there:

This should have your M365, Xbox/Gamepass if you have one etc, and be able to request a reset.

I would avoid trying to use Outlook for any part of the reset process, it has its own weirdness.

Also if you dig deep enough there’s a number to call I think.

Lastly you can set up a new Microsoft ID (using outlook.com or similar) and use that to get access to the free web versions as a temporary measure.

Usual caveat, I don’t work for Microsoft etc etc

Ta!

Yep - no luck - dodgy email address showing - tried Sign-in Helper, end up in the same place. Trying to reset = impossible for emails / subject lines as I haven’t used that address for yonks. Passwords from 10+ yrs ago?? What’s an XBox or Gamepass?

Might have to try the ‘phone option or live chat if I can mine deep enough!

Also MML but thought this was a more appropriate thread

So today I’ve used Copilot Chat & Copilot embedded in Excel & Outlook almost constantly.

This morning Copilot Excel was building some formulas for me or reviewing mine that didn’t work and also build a chart and provided some simple analysis.

This afternoon, Copilot Chat has generated our internal playbook as a interactive HTML file for a process, it’s on brand and uses our logos, we redrafted some communication templates and then using the templates Copilot Outlook generated the drafts for me from the excel file with the core data.

I think this is my highest AI useage day to date at work.

I’ve got the bug now

Today Claude has bult me an interactive tool to help decipher the SCD and avoid having to read all 35 pages.

In my feedback (Don’t forget to complete: Policy Feedback) I’ve suggested this as the way forward so this complex policy can be better understood and therefore implemented - I wonder if I’ll be asked for a copy.

Issues with Bader?

Took a while to get the to sign-on page, got to SMS, changed to a different item within an event:

Server Error in ‘/’ Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An exception occurred while processing your request. Additionally, another exception occurred while executing the custom error page for the first exception. The request has been terminated.

I got the same last night. Gave up in the end.
