hello! im going flying for the first time next week, and i heard were supposed to bring sunglasses for in the air! but the only sunglasses i have are a pair of pit vipers, and i was wondering if they would be okay? thanks!
If you wear sunglasses, they have to have very thin arms, so they don’t prevent the hearing protection from working. I don’t know those sunglasses but a quick Google suggests they wouldn’t be suitable.
But for this reason, most AEFs keep some sunglasses and lend them out on sunny days, so I wouldn’t worry. Take yours with you but expect to be told you can’t wear them…
Ive never had to take them before and theyve always been issued if needed and thats at 2AEF
The instruction to take sunglasses could be something they have been saying for years and have forgotten to change it (my instructions used to say that as well). Also, sunglasses for gliding are useful.
Those wouldn’t be suitable for flying I’m afraid. If you can, buy a cheap set or borrow some whilst you’re at your local AEF.
Flying or gliding?
Gliding = no head protection or headset, so sunglasses with thicker arms would work.
Most AEFs have spare, thin armed sunglasses - certainly the one we use does.
