Hi, sorry if this post has been done before but I’m planning on going into uniform as a NCO and would like to know what the SSIC is like and what you do in the week. Thanks in advance
Thanks! It’s not very informative though?
well the program offers the “what yo do in the week” part of your question.
as for what it is like…well the program goes some way to explain that too.
living in the mess, walking to ATF for the appropriate lessons, classroom, drill hall/parade Square as appropriate return to your room at the end of the day to press uniform, homework and socialise with the group…
Get yourself on a pre-uniform course that will give you a good insight
Thanks everyone!
That’s only useful if your wing run them. Ours doesn’t.
Having recently done this I can say it was one of the most fun weeks I have had in a long time, the Monday is crazy hard, but Tuesday onwards is easier.
With Mitch no longer being there it may have changed but as long as you go in with a positive attitude to learn, no matter what your background, you are willing to improve and listen to the staff and willing to work hard, you will be fine.
Make sure your drill is up to standard, get in with the cadet squads before going, drill is a big part of the week so make sure your ‘Magic circle’ is up to standard and make sure you understand how the 5x5 square works.
I’ve done some research as I have my SSIC in a few months but can someone explain to me what the 5x5 square is all about? I know a little about the magic circle, but nothing about the square. I’m guessing it’s something to do with keeping inside the square while doing a sequence, but beyond that, nothing.
Or can anybody point me towards any YouTube videos showing these?
Thanks in advance.
It was all sent out (a ppt file and a list of commands) by emails but I’ve not found it posted to any HQAC-controlled bits of sharepoint, which is a shame as that would be useful. I’ve also not seen it on youtube.
Take a looky HERE

Incubus, thanks for that, it’s a great help.
