Hello I was wondering what people opinions on flight team logos to be used on power points and inter squadron docs. @OC.1324 Really would like to know if it is something that if kept within a squadron and not in the public, wing and region eyes if its ok. (These are some ruff ones I made for my squadron a while back)
My question would be whatās the point of the CWO Team Badge? Surely that would be maybe one or two Cadets?
Then posts on a national, public forum. ![]()
Well the squadron was very large and did at one point have 4 CWOs but it was just a idea less then a real thing.
Very good shout but again there not currently being used
Honestly, Iād steer well clear.
Even the RAF Officer Training Academy has people designing random emblems and all it does is erode the idea that thereās a set format and a formal process.
It also undermines the genuine stuff.
I donāt mean to put a downer on your ideas, but just calling something the āTraining Teamā or similar achieves everything youāre looking for without creating an endless string of visual sub-identities.
Wings try the same thing, thinking their first aid, shooting, fieldcraft teams etc all need bespoke visual identities. They just donāt. Theyāre all a part of the wing identity.
Also, I encourage your unit to start the process of applying for a legit badge (via me) if youāre wanting to have one to use. The one on that slide isnāt authorised.
My unit has a authorised logo but it identical to that one. The one on the photo is one that I found.
If your current unit badge is identical to the one visible on your slide, I guarantee you it isnāt authorised.
Well i got told it is what make you say it isnt
Maybe because @OC.1324 holds list of approved badges. If they say its not approved then thereās a very strong chance theyāre correct. Not 100%, no one is perfect. But I trust them!
Firstly, @OC.1324 maintains a list of all the authorised badges and so he just knows, but additionally: all authorised badges have a white background inside the circlet, the geographic identifier and āSquadronā are in the top half of the circlet and āAir Training Corpsā is in the bottom half, and finally no depictions of aircraft are permitted.
There are so many wonderful memes one could use to reply to this. But as @JoeBloggs has said, @OC.1324 is pretty clued up regarding sqn badges.
In this scenario, you have just told Colonel Sanders that you had the correct blend of 14 herbs and spices, because someone else had told you, and that he perhaps should check himself.
A very fair question and, under the circumstances, my statement was no stronger than what youād previously been told.
Youāre unlikely to be aware (I mention it because of the Col Sanders comment
), but Iāve spent the last year + pulling together an official register of all authorised badges from across the RAFAC, including scans of the original signed artwork and any additional information that was defined at the time of granting but then isnāt necessarily stored officially (such as the rationale behind a design).
As such, Iām getting pretty good at remembering exactly which units have an authorised badge. Iām close to turning it into some sort of party trickā¦
But as @ArthurHarris outlined. There are some obvious design red flags that give it away.
No it wasnāt my idea to offend anyone I was just wondering what what makes the badge not be official
I promise you that no offence has been taken.
Itās definitely not.
There are a few giveaways:
-
With the exception of the BBMF (which uses three silhouettes), there are no aircraft in unit badges.
-
The text in the circlet is wrong. Air Training Corps is always in the bottom half.
The other things that are wrong could have been down to imperfect transfer to a digital version, but add to the overall sense that it was never authorised.
Arr Ok got ya yeah I speak to them about getting a new logo
Is that badge authorised?
Whatās the issue with having an officially approved squadron badge/crest and also a more modern logo?
Iām not stirring things. Iām genuinely interested. We had an official regional crest and a number of logos at one time.
