Squadron floors has anybody had them re done?

So you know in alot of squadrons the floors are just terrible and grubby . Due to the age they just deteriorat obviously over a long time
Its the 1st thing you see as you walk in that stands out . Id love to be able to have it redone or refurbished. Ours is like a bright red floor as well so it just is not welcoming when you bring new people in etc and the walls etc are all looking nice and clean.

So anyway i wondered if anyone has had any work done before and what did you do?

Im not sure even what is it these type floorings classed as as they arent floors that are layed down etc.

any advice anyone would be really appreciated thanks

We’ve gone down with cleaning fluid and floor steamers before.

Came up really well, but needs some elbow grease.

Has anyone used one of the larger rotary cleaners/polishers before.

Thinking of hiring one…

Not personally, but other staff at the squadron did.
Came up really well, for a few weeks at least.

We’ve ‘refreshed’ the floors with a good mopping and then using a mop on liquid polish to give it a shine and some protection. That works well.

They can do a great job if the flooring is suitable for it. They may be too much for stick down floors and certain vinyls though.

Just be careful when you start it up, I remember watching when I was a cadet my then CWO go flying on the floors in accommodation at Capel Curig as he didn’t realise how much torque there was.

My advice would be talk to a professional cleaner or flooring specialist to understand what the floor is, how it can be cleaned and the most efficient way of doing that. The last thing you want to do is use a chemical that’s too strong and ruin the floor.

Cool.

They are a hardwaring vinyl.

So might just stick to some floor cleaner and steam mops.

Also check there is no asbestos under floor. If the flooring is there to encapsulate it anything more energetic than a cadet-propelled mop can dislodge or damage and then you’re in for a world of hassle.

I know this to be true at my workplace - a grim 60s tower block. Original linoleum everywhere helping to contain the nasty lurking beneath. A can that has been kicked down the road for decades.

Try googling a product called “Care Free Speed Stripper”

It’s a great product that can be applied by mop and bucket or with a Rotary Cleaner.

Rotary cleaners can be hired from your nearest tool hire company.

Then apply a coat of Johnson’s Floor Finish Plus Sealer.

Don’t forget to read the COSHH leaflet and add a copy to your paperwork.

You also may find that just using a commercial steamer MAY be enough to clear a lot of ingrained dirt!

Definitely suggest using Incognito mode / not a Squadron owned device for that

Does anyone know if the famed Klear polish is still available (not for floors or even toecaps but for fixing a model aircraft canopy)?

Let me see if I have one of these in the garage for you!

Tin of (solid) yellow wax polish, gleaming floors in no time - make it an inter-flight competition. :smiling_imp:

Ha ha ha ha - yeah, didn’t think about that!
