Squadron Fire Focal Point (SFFP) and Deputy SFFP

Has anyone had to sign one of these before? (Asking for a friend, as it’s not my problem anymore)

They’re concerned about signing it, on the basis they don’t want the responsibilities involved, in case they get blamed if something is missed, which seems to me fair?

Can they force CFAVs to sign these? They look to me like jobs for Perm staff.

There was a thread where we discussed the legalities of this before when they published the ‘new’ fire document/logbook. I’ll have a dig around and find it…

That was easy:

@pEp summerised it pretty well back then:

That thread started as there was a trial, but carried on when the IBN (06 2022) got released making this a a nationwide thing.

He doesn’t want to sign it, which I can’t see that they can make him sign it, which seems to me to be his prerogative?

I mean, no one can force anyone to sign anything, that’s just silly. Even more so as volunteers. If they don’t want to be the SFFP then the Sqn needs to find someone else? You can’t be forced into a role, surely?

I think policy says it’s “normally the OC”. But if the OC isn’t happy with what is required then they need to ask up the chain surely?

There’s some example TORs here:

I wouldn’t want to sign them…

The unit in question is basically run by the sector commander and a CI.

Sounds awfully familiar… Glad I’m not in that situation anymore.

If that is the current state of staff then the SFFP really should be someone else. Otherwise you end up with 1 person doing every role.

Is it in a joint cadet centre? If so ask the CAA to sign it as otherwise you are undermining a paid role.

It’s not. It’s a strange arrangement with a nursery I think.

This should make life easier for them, as there is less responsibility. Are they ‘hiring’ the nursery to use as a Sqn? If so, the vast majority of the responsibilities end up being on them, and the SFFP just need to see that they are doing what they should. There is a template MoU for this exact purpose on Sharepoint.

For example, the building owner needs to do all the alarm checks, fire door checks etc. The SFFP then just needs to see their logs, and then do fire drills as normal etc.
