Squadron Cadet of the year prize?

Hi just looking for opinions on what others have done for for their squadron cadet of the year prizes . Do you offer a prize on top of normal certificate/trophy ? If so what and what have you found to be best?

All our trophies were full on the plaques and were starting to need some TLC, so I’ve switched to nice certificates with a wax seal, presented in a nice presentation folder (faux-leather sort of thing).

Once we have an authorised unit badge, I’ll then affix a gold version sticker to the front (black and white, with black being gold and “white” being transparent).

It’s something nice they then get to take home and it costs a little bit of money already, so I haven’t followed through on ideas to get miniature trophies.

I also use this format for “squadron commander’s commendations”, so rather than having an award for every conceivable thing, I have the freedom to award commendations for notable achievements, which get them added to the honours board (rather than the annual awards board).

Edit: If you ping me an email from a RAFAC account, I’m happy to share an example.

We have the same issue but are looking at getting the extension to bulk out. The cadets like the history (as do the ex-cadets now parents bringing their off spring back)

Having said that we don’t let the cadets keep the trophies so a certificate or some other official memento is something we look at but never quite end up on delivering (we looked at mini trophy’s for cadets to keep but the cost kept escalating)

This is why I’m hoping to invest in an honours board. Easier to replicate and keep hanging new ones up. Can still present old trophies if preferred, but all new names (and old names) get preserved on the wall in full view.

We (well the cadets as part of a heritage project) restored old trophies which have become our annual one

they get presented them but are kept at the Sqn with their name on. Then they get engraved mini trophies to take home with them - has their name, year and the award.
