Long story short, out building has been refurbished, and we’ve been done over. (Don’t worry, the ACF were handled exactly as they wanted to be.)
Apparently, the big reason we can’t have what used to be our staff office anymore is because it’s now the ‘servery’ complete with kitchenette, and as such needs to be a neutral room for potential hire purposes.
Has anyone ever known their building to be hired out?
My old Squadron was used as a Polling Station and a unit near me used to have their classrooms rented out to the local school for the mother and toddlers group.
RFCA’s can rent out your building for extra income.
This applies to all RFCA properties cadet and reserve units unless a specific case can be made not to rent it out… ie security reasons
It’s on some old agreement AND if they do you can even be told to open up and close up for the event
1 atc unit I know was Gounod out RFCA was showing the SCC it as a potential place for them to rent with a classroom being handed over as well.
Another ATC/ACF building was rebuilt and is rented to a scout unit also.
Look on your local RFCA websites they list potential rentable venues on them.
The plans included two dedicated OC offices. Which are teeny and so low ceilinged I can’t stand up in them.
There was then provision for a joint staff office for both units. (Another room, barely big enough to act as the office for one unit, let alone hotdesking for two.)
However, the ACF don’t want to share it, so have offered us their OCs office instead, so the perm staff (ACF and ATC) are pressuring us to do exactly that.
Like the Wing Co? The ACF WgEXo equivalent was there, and he sounded a right throbber.
Get this, he’s decided that the remotes for the large monitors in each classroom cannot stay in the classrooms. Each unit will take half and need to share them between rooms. His reason was that if we didn’t “the cadets will steal them.’”
My boss replied “mine won’t” he said I’m sure they will, that’s what cadets do. Again my boss informed him that ours wouldn’t. And he said, “well ours will.”
Buildings can be rented out under the RFCA Alternative Venues scheme, although I’ve not seen it operate much.
Sounds pretty poor though that the main raison d’etra of the building is playing second fiddle to a potential opportunity, unless there is already a tenant lined up?
It’s a bit of a kick in the teeth. I also can’t see the building being very attractive to outside hire once the local ACF have had free run of the rooms. It also means we will need to document any damage they cause closely so as to avoid the blame down the line.
