for those areas that don’t use the VIVO contract - have they also had buildings closed for the same reason?
I hadn’t realised it was a forced change, but still they are a contractor on behalf of RFCA.
I think what happen is that RFCA report the fault to VIVO & then VIVO allocate the work to a contractor so there’s an extra layer of bureaucracy.
I think the electrical contractor is HESIS
cough I’ve never changed lights, door handles, put up whiteboards, or washed the walls with a paintbrush myself…. cough
Our CAA would be happy to have fixed the issues, but hands tied by regulations and contracts.

So they’ve had the contract since 2021 and this has only just come to light for something needing to be done every 5 years! Strong on platitudes on the website but short on action and delivery!
A lot of squadrons are going to be shut unless it’s just a problem in certain areas.
Press release says they took over the volunteer estate on 1 August 2024.
I suspect what’s gone to light is that none of the inspections since then have taken place.
I thought someone said it was buildings that weren’t owned by RFCA? Where the owners assumed the occupants were doing it and RFCA assumed the owners were doing it?
That helps explain why my unit is swamped with contractors…
Not that it makes much of a difference, I am curious if there’s been actual instances of (i.e.) electrical fires or shoddy wiring that risks it?
Or is it, instead, just the lack of certificate saying that it’s not safe alone?
(Not saying that ‘it’s not happened yet’ would mininmise the risk that it could, again purely curious)
The original announcement from the CAC mentioned there had been some incidents.

Its ironic that they are standing down squadrons for this for what may take months possible years with the massive budget cuts and their goal of increasing cadet numbers by 30%
I think that’s on the back burner, thrown in the long grass. Since the announcement last year there has been little/no appetite to engage with this; even the ACF seem to have gone off the boil on looking at beating RAFAC to the teenage populus.
That’s our Sqn in the North officially told to shut up shop. I’ve not been told anything more than that.
Does anyone really think that closing these units is too extreme?
Personally I don’t see how we can use the building with the certification in place, the standard control measure against electrical incidents is that these items are maintained.
While I understand the frustration for units being closed, we have to do what is right rather than easy.

100%. It’s stupid the certificates are missing, but without them, standing down is the only correct course of action.

Keep getting questioned by parents as to why we are closed but ACF are not.
Have to explain that different risk holders and decisions

If nothing happens we look like Wendys who are depriving their kids of opportunities
