It’s been a long time since I’ve done the WSO role but wouldn’t this have been pickup by WSO or Wg HSO inspections?
even more kudos to them - a brief google search suggests they were kicked out of their building two years ago for a refurbishment. This must be really demoralising for them! https://www.harboroughmail.co.uk/news/environment/harborough-cadets-call-for-temporary-new-home-as-current-building-undergoes-renovation-4478172
Probably not. The information is (I’m told) held on a database by the RFCAs. Even permanent staff on sites don’t have access. So if the checks are / are not being done it is between the RFCAs and the contractors.
Hopefully it is just teething issues with the new (ish) contracts.
From what I’ve heard if out of date then the squadron closes until EICR is completed and RFCA have sight of certificate.
It’s interesting that there is no business continuity in place or assistance, just closure until sorted.
It’s the premises that are closed. RFCA (in our region, at least) are actively seeking temporary locations for the squadrons to train.
In which case you would expect all tenants of the premises to be stood down, alas that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Okay, so the premises are closed to ATC squadrons (details further up about the ACF having separate certificates or something) but contingencies are being planned to try to keep those squadrons themselves going.
We had our building completely refurbished - 3 - 4 yrs ago. For the first few RFCA checks thereafter, the contractors had the details / plans / wiring setup, etc, for the old layout! ![]()
We’re in the same sector as 1084. 5 of the squadrons in our sector are in the same boat, now trying to find alternative venues but also waiting for guidance ftrom Wing/Region on how the support will work.
At the moment it seems to have hit EM RFCA the hardest, wonder how long before the other RFCAs get hit ![]()
Given the scale, & likely fix times, I hope RFCA will give dispensation for contractors outside of normal RFCA remit to go & get things fixed!
To be fair, they were probably thinking ‘Why would have changed?’, when it hadn’t changed noteaably for over 60 years. But then again, my experience of the contractor in question would give me any confidence…
From the purview of having been shut out of a Sqn building due to power cable failure issues 3 years ago. Good luch with getting it sorted - hopefully you don’t need new power feed as we did; additional issues still not resolved, but at least back in our building.
Local unit is owned by rafac and just had complete refurbishment but has still been closed down
Now on Forces News - Cadet closures due to safety issues impacting thousands of youngsters across UK
…Something something Apollo gift of prophecy meme insert here…
Just had an email to say we are closed due to failure re certification of electrics!
Someone ought to get the sack over this debacle!
No parade tonight with just hours of notice.
I’m sure you can use AI to create a very quick poster to say you’re having to close after 85 years ![]()
8 5 years …
My squadron has been stood down today, and I’ve been able to provide evidence of having an in-date EICR Inspection.
