Sports

Does anyone have information about either the Community Sports Leader Award or the Trail Cycle leader?

I’m interested to get some more different sports on the squadron and wondered if anyone knew about there courses?

I’m in N.E. Scotland Wing

TCL is the BEL of mountain biking. If you mountain bike as a hobby anyway, it’s a pretty easy qual to get if you are comfortable with basic maintenance, nav & group leadership. Depending on conditions it can allow you to take cadets on red graded routes.

CCAT run an (as usual) excellent course for it.

Did you have any specific questions about the TCL? Can’t help with CSLA I’m afraid!

If you want specific info on CSLA pm me  run them in work and assist on wing/region courses

Do you know how to get on this course at all? I am a fairly confident mountain biker and am pretty good at maintenance.

It’s also available through the National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre. Course codes are T3/14 & T37/14. Apply via your OC to Matt at Windy.

There’s also a handful of private providers running the courses; the cheapest I’ve seen in the last few weeks have been around £125-150 - so with both CCAT & NACATC route, you’ll be saving a fair bit (plus travel can be claimed if your WExO is feeling generous).

Epic reply from Batfink! Personally I’d recommend the CCAT course as I really enjoyed mine. The training weekend is a bloody good excuse for a weekend of mountain biking in North Wales! If you are happy on technical sections of the Marin trail you shouldn’t really have an issue.

Hi woatch.
I’m interested in finding out more about the CSLA, so PM sent.
Regards.
Radioman.

Are these courses open to cadets?

Yes - normally Staff Cadets. Particularly the for the NGB qualifications, you can’t exercise those until you are 18 anyway.

Not quite sure what the current stance is on CCAT taking ATC cadets however - I’ve heard rumour suggest that they do now, but not 100% on that.

I believe that they can now apply.
