Sponsorship rules

What are the current rules when it comes to outside sponsorship say for example company sponsoring sports clothing kits. The obvious not been any sort of dodgy company etc but wondered if there are set policys or is it a bit of gray area?

It’s complex and best avoided.

Easiest way. Get the sponsor to donate to the Air Cadrt Charity with a caveat on use. The money or items go through the charity and not a public entity. Much simpler.

I tried this recently and it is nigh impossible through public channels.

not on my current unit, but about 10 years ago the Squadron I was on had sponsorship everywhere.

The Squadron T-Shirt was sponsored by the local “big business” and the SOV was plastered with so many organisation logos it took a while to spot the ATC link given the credit given to every organisation who sponsored the Squadron to raise funds

it may well have changed nowadays, but it certainly has been done in the past

There’s a lot of “depends” under UK Charity Commission rules. Much of it actually coming down to the constitution of the donor organisation (if they’re charitably founded - for example a foundation that donates funds from a large company, or a trust fund that donates from a person’s estate).

The actual display of a company’s logo on things like t-shirts and other clothing items etc, as far as I can remember, isn’t permitted due to HQAC rules and is (was) covered in ACP1358 under 3A dress.

Make sure to get in writing that anything donated is without restriction on use. The donor has the right to demand a refund of donations if they have given it for a specific use and the funds aren’t then used for that purpose.

Fundraising is one of my areas of responsibility in my day job, and it’s a lot more complex these days than it really needs to be.
