Not us, although we do Tues & Turs so the roads are pretty clear (not to mention I travel the best part of 50 miles to my sqn so if I can make it I’m damn sure everyone else can!!)
It should be a common sense decision depending on local conditions, accessability etc.
We didn’t stand down as we have enough local staff who could safely make it to squadron. We did, however, contact cadets via FB/Squadron website to say that if they, or their parents, didn’t feel safe/confident in travelling, then not to attend.

We were stood down Friday, snow was dumping all day, roads gridlocked, road closures cars crashing etc. Doesn’t help that the Sqn is half way up a large hill and the access road is off the beaten track.
Theoretically I could have walked there Friday, quite a long and not an easy walk but given enough time I would get here however I didn’t think it was worth it for the 2 cdts that live nearby and walk to the sqn
I know a couple of other sqns in my wing closed were last night
I am hopeful that we can open the squadron tonight, I have a staff member checking it out before going home after work. No more snow but it is very icy slippy today.
Seriously considering a snow stand-down for tomorrow, unless there’s a big change in the weather.
We’re 250m ASL (and there’s at least one Cadet that has an 70-80mile round trip north, including probably a further 200m rise) but, the local schools’ open/closed status is a major guiding factor for early decision on squadron ‘snow-down’.
As it is, even a staff meeting for tonight is looking doubtful.

We were open and had a reasonable number of cadets turn up. More stayed away because of exams than because of snow!
Remember, if you close the Squadron you have to email a minimum of 342 other people to inform them. On a nightly basis.
Nope.
Phoned our TA-Centre hosts who said roads were fine.
Basic advice given out is if cadet and/or parent/guardian/carer wolfpack felt it was too dangerous to travel - don’t travel!
We couldn’t safely get the minibus and kayaking trailer out to go kayaking last night.
Stupid snow.
We couldn’t safely get the minibus and kayaking trailer out to go kayaking last night.
I was tempted to take my kayak out and do some downhill sledging in it over the weekend!
This was suggested by one of my cadets:
“Sir, if we aren’t going to the pool… snow and ice… kayaks…downhill?”
I did sincerely consider it for a few seconds!
