Except maybe Wittering a few years ago where they seemed to take the mere suggestion as wholesale mutiny!
Yes, we can and do frequently change camp programmes due to one thing or another but my point here is that the initial programming of activities has not changed in line with the way things happen now with regards to shooting, leading me to wonder whether more positive direction was needed.
I’ve seen similar issues with minor AT activities on the programme, where the camp decides everybody will go for a walk but no attention is given to ratios, qualified personnel or correct equipment for said walk. It is easy to write it on a bit of apper but not so easy to do it in practice.
I concur with Wokkaman on this; a good CC will talk to the ACLO Team before arriving and discuss issues relating to the program, be it the range, MT, etc, etc.
As for Wittering, I was CC there last autumn and you could not ask for a better team. The initial program was not great, but after a few chats and joint working, we pulled out an excellent camp for the cadets; well done Wittering.
Some people expect the ACLO Team to be on hand 24/7, remember that the duty is usually a secondary duty, and that they can change the program at a moments notice, not the case.
