If they have been polished for years, maybe remove the old layers and start again. Are you able to upload pics so we have an idea what they look like?

What polish and process are you using?

You’ll get lots of different answers here, because different techniques work for different people. More than one can be right and none of them are necessarily wrong (but be wary of anyone who says you must use a particular product: particularly if that product is Kiwi). You’ll find lots of answers on Youtube.

Personally, I brush polish with a cream polish to nourish the leather (something people often neglect if they keep layering wax polish on top of other layers), particularly around areas that are scuffed, cracked, damaged, or otherwise not shining so well.

Then I use a lint-free cloth (Selvyt, in my case, but it doesn’t have to be) that I have soaked with water and wrung out, with Saphir polish, using small amounts of polish at a time, ‘bulling’ in a circular motion, until the polish and water disappear into the leather.

For special occasions, I then top-up that bull with Saphir Mirror Gloss (using the same technique).

theyre still wet since ive js finished another layer, i use the normal kiwi shoe polish and i js wet a cotton ball, put polish on it then rub it around the shoe, let it dry for 5 mins or till i get impatient then i rub another clean cotton ball on it till its shiny

oh yeah and they look way shinier when theyre recently polished & wet but if i let them dry, tmrw they’ wont be as shiny?

If you leave them to dry, you’ll get watermarks. Keep going until the water is either dried by the warmth from your fingers / friction or worked into the leather. Alternatively, you can use a bit less water to start with (whereas I wring my cloth, you could squeeze your cotton ball).

P.S. They look better than I was expecting from your description, but you’re right to pursue high standards.

It’s about the product you use. Have a look at this youtube video and buy some of the polish he uses. It’s not cheap but I use it and the results are impressive.

That is one of the creators I had in mind when I mentioned Youtube. I don’t think I’ve seen that particular video though. Saved for later.
