I wanted to know that if I want to use cloth to polish my shoes do I need a cloth that specialises in shoe polishing or can I use cloth with similar features or what? Any help is appreciated.
Selvyt
You can use many different types with varying results. The selvyt is considered to be THE cloth. It is a few quid on ebay so doesn’t exactly break the bank.
It comes down to personal taste, I’m a cotton wool man myself.

I always use aircraft canopy cleaning cloths if you can get any.
Some use old tights/stockings
I am sure (old) t-shirts or socks would do a good job (I use this for Brasso on the belt)
others use Cotton wool (many, like myself choose to use balls)
many subscribe to the Selvyt cloth
whatever you use effort is required to create a smooth finish
