Sgt (ATC), FS (ATC) & WO (ATC) ToRs

Ladies and Gents,

I know this has been asked before but I haven’t been able to find anything as yet. Does anyone have some generic ToRs for Sgt/FS/WO (ATC)? I am not really looking for ToRs relating to specific jobs on the Squadron like ‘stores’ etc, but more the general role of being a SNCO in the ATC.

Someone must have written some out there internet land?!

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Custodian of drill, discipline and dress regulations on the squadron! Don’t have tor’s but this kind of sums it up in my eyes!

I think there’s a definite lack of “coffee white with two” but setting that aside…

What do you want your SNCOs (ATC) to do?

I don’t think you should have TORs for NCO (ATC) or Officer (VRT) without them having an assigned role. IF that role is Sqn WO/SNCO then fine, drill and discip pig will do, but I’ve been on sqns where the FS/WO ATC was the Training Officer, and I’m sure there are a number of other positions/permutations out there.

If the NCO (or officer) doesnt have a role then their TORs will amount to general dogs body (see my above).

My highlight of that text was the qualifications requirements.

What would be really handy is if the organisation offered newly appointed SNCOs with some kind of guidance document that actually explained what the role of a new Sgt is on a Sqn…such a thing doesn’t exist as far as I know?!

The only TORs any member of generic staff should require are those which state the minimum expectations of the ACO: meet your minimum hours, dress appropriately, try to let the squadron know if you are away, follow the rules.

More details should be added to TORs for particular ROLES on the squadron and would apply to those persons, whatever their rank, who are assigned to those roles.

Unfortunately I would have also have to disagree with a lot of it too - It seams to try and merge several different areas on a sqn covered by other roles including Arms & Ammo (Adjutant), Drill (Technically Training Officer) and Attendance (Also Adjutant). The individual staff structure on the squadron can also have a bearing.

The trouble is “Discipline” can be quite hard to pin down as it can vary from one situation to another and the local policy will be set by one of the executive roles on the Sqn (CO, TO or Adj) as well as being down to an individuals interpretation.

Going back to the original post, The ToR should be relevant to what you would like the individual to do. I would go from a starting point: -

WO(ATC)
Being able to deputise for any Sqn VR(T) Officer (i.e. be familiar with ACTO 94 and the role profiles)
Responsible for the development and Mentoring of Adult NCOs on Sqn. (in liaison with CO & Training Officer)
Responsible for mentoring and the continuing development of Cadet NCOs on the unit (in liaison with the Training Officer).
without supervision Be able to take charge of planning, approving and delivering events & Activities inc Overnight Camps

FS(ATC) - To develop themselves towards the rank of WO
Without supervision Be able to plan and deliver an activity.
Mentoring and development of Sgt(ATC) (in liaison with SWO & Training Officer)
mentoring of Cadet NCOs on the unit

Sgt (ATC) - Personal development to FS(ATC)
Under Supervision, Be able to plan and deliver an activity.
Mentoring of Cadet NCOs on the unit
Development of skills & abilities to assist in the delivery of sqn activities in a variety of areas.

To be fair I think Perry Mason has the situation summed up pretty well - it depends what you want them to do and what you want them to achieve as an Adult NCO

TOR’s, job descriptions
I agree to a point but let’s not forget we are volunteers!
People join for a variety of reasons with differing degrees of available time

It is all sounding more like full time work than the hobby I started

Can’t you use the CACWO TORs on sharepoint as a start?

I’m sure there was a P-Letter about Adult NCOs and what’s expected of them at some point too?
