heyy! so im doing my air rifle (scorpion) blue shot course soon but im gonna renew my WHT there. i did my IWT and WHT back in april 2025 but that expired in october. the JIs show that theres no chance to redo the IWT.
but cause its been a year, i feel like i might forget what to do- like idk is there anything i need to know cuz im cluelesss..
alsoo the JIs say hair in a bun is PREFERRED, do i rlly have to?
You will need to do the same WHT you did during your initial training.
As a reminder, that’s NSPs/Handing over a Rifle, Load, Stoppage Drills, Unload.
My suggestion? Follow the dress regs, but take something so you can put hair into a bun if needed. My guess is this is someone trying to keep hair out of your eyes/the rifle.
This is someone living in the past and trying to use the “risk” of hair in the moving parts to assist that, and tbh this needs stamping out.
I had it mentioned when the change came in, yet somehow no pony tails (that are behind your head) have ended up getting into the moving parts of the L98, which are forward of your face.
Nope and Nope. If the activity IC has risk assessed THEIR activity and said hair tied up, who are you to refute THEIR risk assessment?
On your point on the L98 - I could quite easily see how long hair COULD get trapped in the working parts, the cockin handle comes back to around the chin, but the ejection opening and the dust cover are much further back.
It’s not a massive issue on an air rifle, but with the L98 I generally advise cadets with long hair to have it in a braid, rather than a ponytail. A ponytail does have a greater risk of hair ending up somewhere it shouldn’t as the hair is looser. That said, I’ve never seen it cause an issue.
