Saluting in Church

Heard a cracker today, please tell me I’m wrong…

Heard of a DI saying that female officers are to salute inside church when the National Anthem is being play; never heard it before. All down to females having to keep hat on inside church, therefore they salute.

If outside, then yes everyone salutes, but inside male officers don’t wear caps so would look stupid if females salute and males don’t.

Stand to be corrected…

I’d say no, based on:

Interesting.
I have heard of this as well. However, it was only in a special situation involving the Sovereign.

Spot on and correct!! As Racing Stick pointed out if the Sovereign was present you would be ordered to but any other time no

Surely you’d have to salute ‘Met Police style’ to avoid having someone’s eye out…

We seem to have a local ruling around Torbay. ATC/SCC/ACF Officer all seem to put their hats back on just for the national anthem inside churches. I thought it was a bit strange but never questioned it.

As a rule we don’t salute during religious services, regardless of headdress. Just throwing that out there!

You salute during a Drumhead Service.

Perhaps by exception rather than by rule. The guidelines in the book say that you aren’t supposed to!
