Rucksack Suggestions

I’ve heard the same, but would be good to hear from someone I know who has used them before telling the Squadron to get spending.

Sorry closest thread I could find rather than starting new…

Can anyone suggest a decent waterproof rucksack cover for a 40l daysack? I will obviously also waterproof the content but the bag is a civilian rucksack so want to protect a little if I can.

Can’t really offer any advice as I’ve personally never found the waterproof covers any good. The second there’s any wind they seem to just become a bit of a burden and blow about everywhere.

I’ve always gone for full rucksack liner along with individual roll top water proof bags for seperating things out.

Trespass does one that works okay. Look for one with a drawstring/toggle rather than just elastic.

Many people have been raving about Access Expedition kit for a while. Not used their rucksack covers, but I like the choice of colours…

Whatever you get soak it in DWR or spray on some decent DWR coating and that will help immensely along with the mildly waterproof properties that a rucksack usually has.

Mil-tec do big rucksack cover that actually work - they’re held on by a bungee type thing that’s about as thick as your arm, and it doesn’t budge.

I’m a big fan of rucksack liners - get something wildly oversized and it can be used to store all your stuff when you’re in the tent. Once the opening is folded over a few times it’s pretty water resistant - if you were doing a 3 day walk through the lakes in relentless rain I’d probably go for a full dry bag, but other than that a liner should be fine.

If you do want a proper dry bag, have a look at Lomo in Glasgow - their stuff is pretty good and is much better value than you’d get in Cotswolds or Go Outdoors.
