As a proud Welsh man I still consider myself British and Britain is stronger together as one.
As for supporting rugby I support two teams Wales and Any team who play against England. BUT I will also support the British Lions and consider Martin Johnson one of the best lions captains.
Legion Scotland just sounds crass and cheapens its name.

They’ve changed branding in part to prevent confusion between the 2 similar organisations. They launched a new corporate image this summer (complete with naff logo) to try to rejuvenate the organisations and attract new members, much the same way that a lot of the military charities find they need to do (RAFA youth anybody?)
Why do Scotland in particular feel the need to have different but the same organisations to the rest of the UK?
Is it just to be populist for the Scottish nationalists OR is it a real and proper need? I know where my money is.
It seems to me that Scotland in particular wants to eat its cake and keep it, which has been amply shown by reluctance for Scottish MPs to give up their vote in respect to matters in Westminster that don’t conern Scotland. OK this is more of a problem to Socialists in England as they’d be stuffed if it happened, but you would have thought given the deisre for more separation from the UK the Scottish MPs would be happy to do it.
All that happens in cases like this and devolved bodies is replication of what is there already, BUT this means the hangers on get a bit more money at the end of the month. The same would happen if things were devolved to regions in England.
The questions are
Why now?
Will it get more members - ie the people who do the work at branch level and raise the profile of the organisation?
Are the needs of servicemen/women, ex-servicemen/women and or their familes / dependents in Scotland any different to those in the rest of the UK?
Will they allow branches to freely use/access the welfare and general funds they hold and cut the crap admin to justify getting assistance?
If threre is a valid reason and the other three are a resounding yes, crack on in Wales and NI.
Couldnt agree more. But LEGALLY its still The ROYAL BRITISH Legion Scotland. So what was the damn point.
That bloody money time and effort could have been better spent actually helping our Veterans.
Scottish notes annoy me even more. Why not have 1 bloody note.
Its not the Sun, its the Scottish sun. Scottish Teabags, Scottish Breakfast, Scottish Express.
My fellow scots are so easily fooled by putting Scottish in the front of anything.
Drink whisky cos its scottish. Got Mel Gibson tartooed on my belly cos its scottish. I quote braveheart cos its scottish and actually said it ken?
There always has been a massive anti-english undertone to all this crap. And it is “acceptable”.
I never served Scotland. And never would. I swore an oath to serve the United Kingdom.
This further divides and alienates us. I am extremely let down and annoyed by the ROYAL BRITISH Legion Scotland.
Typing this as I freeze my ass off poppy collecting in Scotland and we just had this conversation with the poppy organiser for this area.
Apparently the scottish charity regulator told them they had to make a distinctive
Split to where the money was going. RBL and RBL(Scotand) were to similar so they had to change for this reason HOWEVER RBL(Scotland) shall still be the overall organisation
In answer to the comment of the sun v scottish sun its a way to make money for scum who will print what people want to read as long as it makes money
No the RBL Scotland has been a seperate charity since the 1920s I think.
Does that mean Scotland gets twice as much support? from RBL Scotland and RBL? I am not sure.
I would however like to see how much this “rebranding” cost.
My local RBL Scotland closed down due to running at a huge deficit. Why couldnt more money time abd effort have been put into helping that to help veterans rather than funding a big underlying political message.
I dont know why Scotland always chooses to be different.
I have never served Scotland. And never would. Independant or otherwise. I swore an Oath to the United Kingdom. My heritage is British. I have had fore fathers in the Highlanders, the Army, The Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Marines. I do not wish for a charity that should remain politically neutral to start jumping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth.
The Branches of the RBL are not the main point of contact fit support. That is the case workers. The number of branches that have closed/been closed for being decidedly dodgy is a blot on the rest of the legions record
In my experience the initial point of contact is the branch and in that the welfare committee, people come to a meeting or contact the branch. Case workers may get involved after that.
As for branches closing this is almost enshrined in the RBL Charter. Several years ago we were threatened with closure as we hadn’t nominated deputy and deputy deputy executives. There was no offers of help etc, just tick this box or we’ll close the branch. Now a few of us just put our names down for the sake of it, IIRC I’m deputy secretary and deputy deputy vice chairman and never done either. But I imagine there are branches that have folded as a result.
But surely the money goes to the RBL and the RBL then spends on whoever requests assistance. Splittng it has to be a massive faff.
Not unless there is now Charity Commission (Scotland) and you’ve got some seat shiners there making work for themselves.
I think you will find there is…is called OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator ) they are there to ensure the Scottish charities are complying with Scottish law.
it does get confusing especially in situations where organisations (not just the ACO) are quoting English law all the time.
I failed a H&S exam recently as all the questions related to English law and guess what…I am Scottish so it doesn’t help to me
that I deal with Scottish law.
Being English but having been based in Scotland I have said every single one of your points you mentioned! I despise the fact that everything up there has to be “Scottish” but down here its not English but “British”…
