My progress so far today!
I’ve called it for the day as I’ve made it to a place where I can get home easily! 25.6km today. Lots more pausing. Even ended up at a small zoo half way ![]()
Also, this stuff is great:
It does look like urine when you’ve not had enough water, which is ironic as that’s why I bought it as I didn’t have enough water with me ![]()
It reminds me of some of the great tea I had in Morocco!
Congrats; I do believe you’ve earnt your yellow “Marcher” pin for this year!
I’ve not even done the minimum for the white “Walker” pin this time. A combination of being exhausted from work + uni, and being unwell, means I decided just doing the parkrun this weekend was enough.
I admire your commitment to the park run with everything else going on!
My feet are not in great shape after that. Got some blisters forming!
I also now realise I need to eat! All I’ve had is some leftovers from last night. A sausage and some bean and feta spread
Not exactly enough for what I’ve walked.
It’s one of those things that, shy of being in a hospital bed, I know I can get up and do regardless of what’s going on. It’s worth focusing on what can be achieved on our bad days, rather than what we aspire to on our best days.
I could always walk if necessary, although I very much didn’t do that this week on a tough course.
Tell me you didn’t do those walks in boots…
Nah, but I think I’d have been better off. Never had blisters in boots!
Yesterday I wore my Salomon Alphacross 5 GTXs. Today I wore the La Sportiva Akasha 2s!
The blisters have formed sort of around my heel, low down close to the bottom of my foot.
Wandered around that area once or twice when on local standby at GVA.

That’s my certified distance! Not too bad for 2 days and only 7 hours 30 of walking time.
Give it a week or two and you’ll be able to order your medal & pin from the shop
Just seen the dates for next year are 6th-9th May inclusive.
They must always aim to line up with this Thursday holiday?
As I had the Thursday and Friday off this year.
Tell me you work in mainland Europe without telling me you work in Mainland Europe.
Whilst at RAF Bruggen, which was right on the Dutch border, we got all the European holidays & any specific to either German or Holland. Sometimes we even had to work 4 days in a week! ![]()
Great for being a tourist in Holland if it was a German holiday, & vice versa. It was only about 6 hrs drive (with a coffee stop) - the benefits of tax-free fuel coupons - to get from Bruggen to Oberammergau! ![]()
Deadline for this year’s RAF Pathfinder March is this coming Sunday
Shiny medal and a cracking t-shirt
There’s a group of us going already - with my lad being our support driver
A last “training walk” before Nijmegen - This Saturday 4th July (over 18s only)
Circular route from Richmond Station, along The Thames to Richmond Park, avoid being gored by stags as we walk half way round, emerging at Sheen - and passing the first of MANY pubs as we walk back to The Thames Path..,
Mortlake, to Barnes, to Putney, then back via Fulham & Craven Cottage to Hammersmith and Chiswick, then cross back to Kew and stagger back towards to Richmond Station…
Owing to a personal need to not miss my last train home this time, we won’t be stopping at every pub… but a good 8 ought to keep us hydrated…
(Plenty of shops & toilets along route, as well as shops, supermarkets and public transport (for recovery back to Richmond Station)
The route itself is very manageable even for newbies - first pub is at around 9 miles and is not a particularly “brisk” walk… final distance is between 18 and 25 miles - depending on the number of pubs we hit… with relatively short sections between each pub. One hill - Combe Hill on the far side of Richmond park, with a very gentle, shady gradient.
Message me if interested…
Maybe not roadmarching, but just seen this and thought that some of you loons might be interested. Trailwalker 2026 | Trailwalker
It was nice to meet a couple of the pirates at Nij, shame it wasnt more since I couldn’t start the 50 route until the end of the start period. I think I need to do a tad more training before returning with a vengence
How come? Couldn’t wake up in time…?
Earlist train We could see online got us in from Arnhem at like 4:35 so day 1 I made it with less than 1 min spare and day 2 with about 10 seconds
The queue to start was long. The organisers have cut the number of scanners to spread the walkers out over the whole start period. I know lots of people who were complaining that it was taking too long to get out.
I arrived at the Wedren at 04.35 and the 50km walkers were still queuing to get out. The last left at 04.45 on day one. ot was a bit faster on the other days.
I was near the front of the queue for the 40km. On all 4 days I got out no later than 05.05. people who arrived later had very long queues to start the 40km.
