For anyone wanting to do Nijmegen this year, as a first timer - or if you have not competed NM in over 10 years… Registration Period 2 opens this morning at 0900 (1000 CET).
You will need your “Walker registration number”, your means of payment: debit card, credit card or PayPal; your personal details including DoB, Home Address, Email Address; contact number and an alternative contact number (NOK).
If the registration software is the same as was for Period 1, you may be able to order up to 2 tickets - provided you have the wallet registration number and personal details of the second walker.
Good luck to anyone attempting to register today, there’s only 2,362 tickets left out of 47,000.
Last year there was an estimated 20,000 people queuing online for one of 3,088 remaining tickets!
Having multiple devices open may help - and personally, I’m going to try setting a VPN to Netherlands on at least one of mine, while I try to secure to secure a ticket for Mum2James!
Good luck with that, It is getting more and more difficult to get a start ticket if you do not fall inline with the period 1 registration regulations. The need to look at upping the numbers and grow the walk. A 1000 every year and see how it effects the start.
So - successfully managed to get a ticket at long last for Mum2James…
Now to see if she enjoys the music on the Waalkade!
in the meantime - the system for the second Registration Period - for First timers was absolutely BONKERS this morning!
We had various devices set up - including one that was using a VPN set to Netherlands, and using the Website (not the App), with Dutch selected instead of English language.
Another was set up using the app, in English
Another used the website, in Dutch, without a VPN.
The device using the VPN was successful… this could be entirely coincidental of course…
When the site went live, we were given positions of approx 40,000, 50,000 75,000 in the queue.
The page refreshed at random intervals - and the position in the queue changed erratically. Instead of consistently going downwards, it would frequently go up - and by VERY large values…
The system did at least then allow users to go on the waiting list if unsuccessful…
The waiting list will give users three chances to respond if offered a ticket that is being returned…
Lets see how that works out..
In the meantime - now to book Mum2James a ticket for WARMA and Waendel!
Will be interesting to hear from anyone. Last two things I’d heard were a) the event was being restricted to cadets / MOD only; then b) the event was being restricted “paused” outright…
There is no one to run it. There were lots of issues regarding the organisation of the SGM. I will not go into too much detail but while the event itself was run in a professional and safe manner but there were other issues of who’s authority it was being run under. There was much custom and practice with things being rolled on from year to year. After the break for covid this was lost with some questions were being asked of the organisers and these could not be answered by the organisers and event could not go ahead.
Finding an organisation to take over the event is difficult. RAF WARMA were approached but do not have the capacity especially only a couple of weeks after the Cosford 2DM. West Scotland Wing regularly use Garelochhead camp and regularly organise RM from there.
For the SGM to go ahead again, a military unit will need to form a club like WARMA, become a member of BWF for insurance and assurance and organise the event. Currently, there is little appetite for this to happen.
It might have been hosted by an army unit, or had personnel under the command of a unit, but it looks like the organisation and whatnot was ran by TFG Events
