Says Jeltex on the officers initial kitting form, but the stores guy who dealt with me said you don’t want that and gave me a MVP/goretex one instead.
Stores guy said we don’t give Jeltex to adults but we don’t have any goretex so you can’t have one of those either.
I might have a look on eBay.
You mean you’re not being provided appropriate PPE to do your volunteering
I had that as an Adult Sergeant 20 years ago
Adults are supposed to get jeltex AND goretex, no?
checks regs
EDIT - Jeltex yes, Goretex Private Purchase for adult staff
Being allowed to wear it doesn’t mean you are scaled to be issued it.
We are allowed to wear MTP, doesn’t mean we are given it.

Are they still procuring Jeltex, just for cadets, or is it all old stock?
We can still order them in new from stores for cadets!
Can confirm - we’ve recently had new ones.
My old Squadron had hundreds in stores and I suspect many others do too.
Cadets should be issued with the kit list which includes waterproofs.
This need not be of uniform colour or style providing its functional it xan be worn. In No2s bit only have No3 waterproofs (or vice versa) it doesn’t matter.
If they don’t have any they’ll get issued them by RIAT camp logs (get there early else it will judy be Alton Tower’s style poncho)
That said in all my years at RIAT if the rain is coming down Cadets are relocated to rest tents oit of the weather.
Updates yesterday to both queries basically saying the roles listed don’t exist but here is a role with a slightly different title please advise if that’s who your talking about (then the clock to respond starts again) seems to be trying to drag out the release of anything as long as possible
An interesting discussion I’ve just seen on Facebook in a DofE leaders group. Apparently any child below the minimum school leavers age requires a permit to work. And this includes if volunteering!
Is this why they changed that age requirements for RIAT? And if so, how does this effect other things we do. For example you often see cadets volunteering to run car parking and stuff for local groups. (And does this maybe need it’s own thread to discuss child work permits?)
If it is, they should have told everyone about it because we’re potentially all in breach as well!
IBN 005 - 2023 about RIAT 2023 provides some background, including ‘16-year-old cadets must have completed their compulsory schooling and be above the minimum school leaving age (MSLA) to attend the support camp; cadets who are below the MSLA cannot be removed from school to attend this event; there are no permitted exemptions.’
From this, I assume that volunteering outside school hours is fine e.g. the weekend car parking but not taking cadets out of school for a week to volunteer at RIAT. It could be helpful to include this in an ACP for clarity.
The reason the conversation came up was because DofE participants doing the volunteering section may well need a permit! For example a 14 year old volunteering in a charity shop for DofE. Outside of school hours still.
I am just wondering how this is different to us rocking up at the local fate and the cadets doing the car parking? Or when units go and help run events at the RAF club. etc etc.
So this would affect scouts too I guess? If you are below MSLA you can’t do any volunteering!
Only if it involves being removed from school. That’s my interpretation anyway. Perhaps the school could give permission and then it would be ok though?
Sorry, I thought that you would need a permit anytime!
