As on the tin… any recommended (cheap-ish) webhosts? I’ve currently got accounts with https://www.lcn.com/ (who are ok, but have limited features) and TSOHost (who seem to be buying as much of the competition as possible, and who I’ve had bad experiences with and so trying to move away from).
Companies that offer reduced / free hosting to charities especially welcomed!
I would love to have made our sqn a website but the wing media officer said it would need to be similar, template wise to our wing website…only our wing does not have a website. I have searched many sqn websites from various wings and I must say quite a few of them looked shocking. I ended up making a basic who we are and what we do kinda webpage using https://spark.adobe.com
I actually had one put together with a domain name etc. When the media chap came he said it would need to be checked higher up the chain before it could go live. The co was chuffed to have one to show off what we do and for recruitment. I had loads of plans so Cadets could access it to get info on what was happening and tutorials etc but a member of staff said we don’t need it as cadets wouldn’t bother. It kind of died then. If I suggest something I always get shot down so I give up now and just gonna do what I need to now. Moan over…and no I don’t feel better
1and1 Internet plus yola have been pretty good to us.
We don’t update it, theres not much on it, the cadets don’t use it for anything, but we do get a few hits and the odd contact us form is filled in.
We also don’t use Facebook, nor twitter. We use email. We email cadets, Parents and staff in separate distribution lists. Like our parent organisation!
All the Cadet (and staff) resources should be in one place… In the Corps level Bader area. I fail to understand why each region and wing feel the need to replicate everything, and often change it a bit just so that they have put their stamp on it.
I totally understand. In the past I’ve been responsible for both Wing and Sqn websites and I’ve always tried to limit the content to what is unique to that level (e.g. a brief Sqn history, or a (user-friendly) list of Sqns in a Wing)
EUKHosts - service is incredible and 24x7. Connectivity really good and lots of things included as standard. I contacted support on Boxing day for a problem with a Sqn website once, all done on an instant chat and they fixed it whilst I waited. Servers are in the UK.
