This bit has confused me. First para makes it clear we must stick to ACP 1358 as written, until it’s updated. Second para then says in fact, don’t do that, if you’ve got cadets with a new brassard then they can ignore the above and use this random interim guidance?
The second para makes much more sense, and so takes precedence in my opinion. Insisting on new cadets adopting the old positions, only to move them later makes zero sense.
If there was any consultation, from past experience, I would expect HQ to just do what they planned in the first place, and ignore the survey results unless it agreed with them…
firstly praise where praise is due, this is a very clear infographic of the brassard and the various options.
secondly - proves the rumour i heard to move flying (/gliding) badges to the brassard (to so that “qualification” isn’t only worn when wearing a jumper) was false, or at least not been followed through
Metal flying badges are now ubiquitous in the RAF (as it saves aircrew from enduring jumpers in July so that everyone knows what they are). I think this already includes ‘VR’ and ‘G’ wings and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before cadet flying badges follow.
Would there be any way they can keep cyber and radio separate? It seems a bit of a waste especially if you have a high level on comms and radio and you can’t wear both! The brassard looks too empty, maybe introduce a different placement if you have both?
Simply due to a lack of music badges (from what I’ve noticed) could there be an option to have space in the music badges position if you have radio and cyber and if you have the music badges only have the one cyber badge and space in its proposed position?
The matching cyber and radio never made much sense anyway. Could have been easily fixed by changing the C to an R for radio, but amalgamating the syllabi makes more sense. The sparks badge this was based on (see @Horriblelittletechie ’s avatar) is now worn by aviators in the cyber communications and sigint specialisms rather than the old idea of a radio operator.
Due to further budget cuts and the associated cost of producing different badges, the re-launch of the PTS will see the replacement of all badges with just one!
As I read it the syllabus both is and isn’t amalgamating. Cyber and Radio both sit under “cyberspace”, but they will have two entirely separate syllabi as they currently do. Therefore you will still have cadets with Gold cyber and blue radio, or vice versa etc etc.
Why they felt the need to scrap one badge I will never know, especially when cyber is meant to be one of our three main pillars - I’ll believe that when I see it.
