I’m not RCO, but the usual stuff i see (depending on range type):
Chalk
Masking tape
Pads/Gash paper
If LR, some kind of shelter
Poncho (for ground sheet - clean cleaning area)
Eye patch(s)
(recent good idea notices, little bag/container for ea firer to put brass into) always funny watching them trying to balance 40 rds in their tiny hands
Radios
Spare targets
Spare cleaning gear
Scissors (for cutting cleaning cloth, and before anyone gets ansty, i know you can rip it, but trying to watch new cadets do it when you have 10 minutes left of the day is a bit annoying)
Depends very much on which ranges you’re using. We have two bags - one for indoor/short range stuff, one for barrack/gallery. Both are kept in holdalls rather than any special rucksack type thing. The list below I think, from memory, is what’s in each - although I know there’s a couple of extra bits which the appropriate RCO/staff team will throw in depending on where they are going and what they are doing!
Indoor
Mobile phone. Spare ear defs. RAMs. First Aid kit. Antibac wipes/hand gel. 4 way block. Fan heater. Gloves. Spare sling. Elbow pads. Coaching notes/QR card. Eye patches. Quick Reference cards for variety of range practices. Chalk. Quick reference cards for marksmanships scores. Score ring acetate for all distances used. Ruler. Camera. First Aid kit. Multitool. Gaffa tape. Stickers. Boxfile full of appropriate targetry. Ammo blocks (.22). Coaching mats. Shooting mats. Spotting scope. Pens (selection of). Notebook. Scissors & cleaning kit.
Outdoor
Mobile phone. PMR 446 radios/Sqn radios (depending on situation). Flask of tea. Waterproofs (top & bottoms - I am now a convert to DPM Salopettes if you can get them!). Ponchos/groundsheets/basha sheets. Gloves. Hat - sun. Hat - woolly. Sunnies. Spare ear defs. Bog roll. RAMs. Antibac wipes/hand gel. Suncream. Chapstick. Moisturiser. High DEET level insect replelent. Paracetamol. Ibruprofen. Imodium. Gaffa tape. Quick Reference cards for variety of range practices. Quick reference cards for marksmanships scores. Score ring acetate for all distances used. Quality broadsheet newspaper. Ruler. Camera. First Aid kit. Multitool. A4 pocket folders. Small sealable bags. Ammo blocks (5.56 & 7.62). A borer/auger for tidying up the shoddily constructed frames which probably won’t scoring disks. Fistful of patches/stickers, sighting disks, hairpins, and, depending on which practices you do down the butts end, some eye protection and leather gloves wouldn’t go a miss. Nuts/Zoo magazine. Boxfile full of appropriate targetry (especially if doing marksmanship work). Spare sling. Spare cleaning kit. Scissors. Some cleaning patches. Elbow pads. Coaching notes/QR card. Coaching mats. Shooting mats. Spotting scope. Pens (selection of). Notebook. Range cards. Funky waterproof clipboards (“Weatherwriters”).
I’m certain I’ve missed some stuff out!

Don’t forget the RA for the movement+ handling of the bag itself Wow, that is an uber-impressive contents list…the 668 for this would almost represent more than my squadron’s static inventory (and no, I’m not joking) .
Cutting to the points I was going to make [/pun-alert]: I’m a serious fan of the small paramedic shears you can now cheaply buy. Safer than the plastic scissors in a nursery school, can be demonstrably run about with, yet will accurately cut through anything from ricepaper to coins of the realm.
The bag itself: a barrel-type sports holdall will be simple and quick, but may suffer from being a bit of a rake-through jumbleshock during searches for The Vital Missing Thing. I know you’re saying the ‘no rucksack’ approach works for you, but may I also remind forum members of the incredibly-versatile usefulness of the DPM Radio Bergan in this potential application. Reasons: tough, cheap, back-carryable, has zips to attach a pair of the OG/DPM ‘jetpack’ kitbags for sub-storage, range of internal straps for adding/restraining smaller labled-up sub-bags or boxes, or as dispensers (Roll, bog-type or blue, or Tape, Gaffa etc). And since it’s 3-sides zipped, it opens flat into being a giant field activites shared access resources ‘shadow board’. Perfect also for holding the event first-aid kit (one of the jetpacks could even be marked with the HASAW green-cross badge for immediate known access).

ps Just my 2p worth (well, actually sub-£20 on EBay, if you time it right)
I think Batfink has got it about right and you should definitely have two different set ups! I normally carry a seperate box full of ear defenders around though (as they’re useful for both types of ranges) as Batfink has covered the Sqn range bag I’ll tell you what I take to the range (as a Wing Shooting Officer)
Leeroy’s Combat Man Bag (A4 DPM Folder)
Leeroy’s Indoor Range Bag
Leeroy’s Outdoor Range Bag (the indoor range bag comes with me!)
This is in addition to the Sqn’s/Wing’s shooting boxes we have which contain roughly Batfink’s list!

Fixed that for you.
Not really a fan of pasties mate! It is a southern food! More of a pieman!
