Random question -Whistles when raising the ensign?

Total random question for yous , on camps etc even squadrons when putting the ensign up. I was wondering what type of whistle do they use for this is there a specific they use on bases etc? As i want to get 1 for us but dont know which whistle to get exactly any links would be helpful.

I think they’re often ACME whistles like this one, from what I’ve seen

We use something like this:

Although it’s an original one (I think) :joy:

Just a regular sports whistle is fine on a lanyard. We aren’t in the Navy and need a precise pitch sound, just make sure you have a protocol for hygiene. Also ensure it’s kept clean especially if a “pea” inside as a blockage and you are struggling!

I’d say the Acme type is more traditional but anything is fine.

I use my Great Aunt’s ARP whistle (it’s the same pattern as the WW1 ‘trench whisles’, but stamped ARP).

The RAF now leave their ensigns flying. Would be nice for RAFAC squadrons to leave theirs up too.

The given reason of recognising 24/7 operations is a really nice cover for the real reason: one less job for the orderly officer to do twice a day!

It started over COVID - having three people stood together and sharing a whistle was also a no no - everyone would have had to provide their own whistle

The Foreign Office has always (for as long I know anyway) flown the Union Jack 24/7, due to its worldwide network of embassies, etc.

When deployed with the Army, they only lowered and re-raised flags when one unit was handing over to another,
