RAFVR80 : a note, before we reach the end of September

I had hoped that, somewhere, there would’ve been some formal recognition that this year (as well as being ATC75) we should be commemorating, in one way or another, the 80th anniversary of the RAFVR.

Whilst it shared ‘it’s finest hour’ within the first decade of it’s existence alongside the RAF and Auxiliary Air Force, over the following 70 years it has played an important supporting role.

Although the General Duties RAFVR Flights have now been RAuxAF squadrons for nearly twenty years, the Training, UAS and DTUS branches of the RAF Volunteer Reserve still exist.

Please raise a glass this year to the brave bygone officers, airmen (and later airwomen) of the RAFVR, volunteers and conscripts alike, in this it’s eightieth year.
