RAFAC vs War

TBH

A deployment right now would make my life a bit easier.

Let’s do it!

I could see myself being used to deliver weapons training as a skilly :man_shrugging:

According to one of my staff, there’s an actual procedure to this.

if we only just started being invaded, certain activities would have to stop instantly and I’d image most sqn’s would cancel parade nights in fear of this.

If command in London fell and the “nasty people” were becoming stronger, any cadets that are trained to use the L98a2 could be able to fight as long as they’re 16 and above. They could also form their own militia if they wanted!

Quite a disturbing scenario. Cadets at war…

The only procedure is what’s detailed in AP1919.

Re general population there would be draft legislation ready to be laid before parliament in event of emergency but nothing beyond that.

The l98 trained cadet thing is speculation & militias have been illegal since queen Anne’s time.

@TheDon your dissertation was on this right?

Can we please close down this thread.

Its getting laughable, what people think the organisation will do if we go to war. At this rate we’ll become the second largest fighting force after the SAS.

Dad, what did you do in the war. Well son, I man a shovel and filled sand bags :smiling_face_with_horns:

From what I understood, their Cadet Forces structure is different to ours and more akin to how ours started out. As such they are very much a pipeline to service.

Not at all surprising in a Total War environment & a world away from anything ever likely to happen here.

this is exactly what i would expect - any direct “qualifications” held by CFAV would be requested for basic training.

i could also see WI/SAAIs being asked to speed up the training from 2 days to 1 day to get the troops through the sausage factory of recruited/conscripted off the streets and through to the front line in 14 day turnaround

I don’t see that happening. In basic training, everything is taught by the section commanders: from room inspections, to drill, FP training, CBRN, weapon handling, etc.

Someone only able to teach SAA on one weapon system — which isn’t even the variant used for operations — would be of very limited employability.

As we transition to conflict, the MOD is more likely to come after assets and real estate, regulars and FTRS personnel attached the HQAC, etc, rather than CFAVs. Similar to how we lost access to Tutors but didn’t get involved in what they were being used for.

If the UK is attacked ….it wont be by hordes of soldiers requiring a huge infantry to fight !

We are a small island …in my opinion, we would simply be flattened by missiles and probably no enemy would even need to set foot on UK territory…
The idea that we would need to train people to fight in the streets to me is totally unreal!

Correct.

The biggest risk to us is a big flash of sunlight then it being all over

I’m a civilian so I think I’m all set :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

That’s only a matter of regulations. The difference between the L98 and L85 is incredibly minor. It wouldn’t take much to upskill all SAAIs to L85 who would then be able to teach others. Remember, we used to teach the L86 with the same qual.

My CSM blagged it was completley different, only actual difference is funcions test really…

The old stoppage drills were very different. The only time we’d touch the safety catch during a stoppage on the L85 was when we’re going up to the pointy end to adjust the gas plug.

I found the ethos was also very different. I performed all the drills as fast as possible, because my life depended on it. When conducting a WHT with RAFAC, on the other hand, I was told I had to slow down.

Mine was the opposite lol

My old Wg Shooting officer loved a speedy stoppage drill

Now ive been told to hold my horses because life or death you still have to be thorough

The new drills are meant to be quick. All the looking and thinking has been taken out for a reason.

ahhh that’d be why, I was taught by REMFs not grunts, so they still have a nasty habit of thinking.

Bet the Infantry isn’t having that problem

Non-standard (old) L85 drill - rack (v quick look), release working parts, tap forward.

Sorted 99.9% of problems. :smiling_face_with_horns:
