RAFAC Heraldic Badges

looking for something else, i dipped into ACP633 and feel @OC.1324 you need to consider Annex H of that ACP given the examples there…

Bit of a tough one with music. With Sqns/Wings/Regions paying a pretty penny to have their drums emblazoned, it’s going to be a bit of a stretch to get them all redone with the appropriate branding. Can’t see it happening personally.

I also feel just having the badge looks significantly better than badge+logo on things like drums.

Oh, yeah, that would look awful. @Wizzle that can’t be intended right?

while i do not disagree - it is a case of a “exception to the rule” which i believe is not the intention going forward - there are no exceptions…

It won’t happen and nobody will enforce it.

I certainly wouldn’t be against making the case for badges without logo on drums.

I think, much like a squadron banner, the purpose very much isn’t about branding as such, it’s traditional and stylistic and has a certain history to it.

It’s very much part of the aesthetic of the drums (and is never really visible for reading anyway).

Of course, many drums have incorrect badges on them, but it probably wouldn’t be too much to change the liveries.

Like any unimportant rule that isn’t related to safety just ignore it, it’s what the rest of the organisation will do, “Sorry no band for Remembrance Day this year, the drums have the wrong badge on them”.

OMG! All the official sqn badges to choose from and they go with one that isn’t even close?

Edit after calming down: Potentially, the only thing wrong here is the sqn number not being on number plates, but this indicates that an unauthorised badge has been used for the example.

Right, I’m ordering an air officer’s chip hat and wearing it with my barrack shirt then, and some of those nice metal wings.

Jock Stirrup came to my Squadron when he was CAS and was wearing red socks with his No1’s and his tie wasn’t in a Windsor knot, the sky didn’t fall.

I’ve got a new CFAV for you:

Remember, rules that aren’t related to safety don’t matter.

Stupid rules are for stupid people, if they don’t matter to the CAS then they shouldn’t matter to anyone else.

There’s a reason why WOs and SNCOs set the standards for uniform.

They aren’t busy enough doing important stuff? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Realistically, if people are actively posting to their SM, they should have changed it already, IMO. If you’ve got time to make 30-second reels and take loads of photos and arrange them nicely to post, then you’ve got time to quickly stick the RAFAC logo next to your badge in the profile picture.

Yet I’ve seen loads of posts the last couple of days that are non-compliant, with non-compliant profile pictures.

And remove the badge if it’s not authorised.

General comment on some forum stuff, but relevant here.

There’s lots of conflating “I have more important things to be doing” with “I don’t like being told what to do”.

I challenge stuff I disagree with all the time, much to the chagrin of some of my volunteer & perm staff colleagues I’m sure. But I make the challenge based on its merit (which is always, I feel, in the best interests of the organisation), and then get on with it and do my best not to deliberately frustrate the organisation further.

Edit: Example being the drums thing raised above. I’ve flagged it and made my case as clearly as I can. Now I wait to see what happens.

Depends on the platform, it can be difficult to make it look good. As an example on here, if I had a Squadron Badge or the RAFAC badge as my prologue picture it would look alright, getting both to fit and look good would be difficult.

We always had the Squadron Badge as the profile picture and the RAFAC headed as the banner on most types of SM, woukd that meet the new rules?

I like what Dover have done:

Fits in the circle nicely! Not sure if it follows the rules to the letter, but looks great.

Hucknall also has a good interpriation:

But again, doesn’t technically follow the wording exactly.

Interestingly, if you go on Facebook and just search “Sqn ATC” you can scroll for ages, and it’s just hundreds of different ATC unit pages. 95% are their own badge. 3% are the RAFAC logo and maybe 2% are both, following the rules.
