RAFAC Heraldic Badges

There is a great difference between the re-enactors/living history people and those that play dress-up for events and swan about in ill fittng, ill matched and error strewn ‘costume’.

Can we re-enact being people discussing the actual thread topic please.

Back to RAFAC badges.

Had this pop up - perhaps we can get CGP Grey to do ATC badges (or perhaps this is how we rate them)

I haven’t watched the video yet (I’m in work), but if its talking about the rule of tincture then that does indeed apply to (and comes from) heraldry.

Love this video and all things CGP Grey!

I’m like, 3 minutes in. I love it.

Please point this guy my way.

When they all held up their drawings and he sighed I was like: “I FEEL SEEN!”

Okay, so it didn’t mention tincture, but I strongly agree with the rule about writing your name on your flag. Just look at the White Ensign and RAF Ensign versus the Army camp flag.

I watched this back when it came out (started watching every CGP Grey video after the Interstate/Runway videos 3 years ago). Some amazing work from him in pretty much all his videos

Ive just chosen this motto for my new Sqn crest; can there be two formations with the same motto?

Better make a note in my diary…“■■■■■■”…

god I hope you did

but now I’m stuck wondering what expletive got censored

QQ. The guide says unit badges must be accompanied by the RAFAC logo. When using the ATC badge, does that rule still apply?

I suspect that the answer is yes - though, to me that would be overkill…

Yes. All badges must be accompanied by the logo.

The reason is that “Royal Air Force Air Cadets” is much better understood than “Air Training Corps”.

So the latter must always be accompanied by the former if you want to be understood by your target audience.

This also mirrors the parent service’s branding policy, where heraldic badges always play second fiddle to corporate logos.

In that case, you might want to change your profile picture

As I sent that message, I did look at it and wonder if someone would say that.

You’d think he’d use his own squadron’s one…

For clarity, I wasn’t actually trying to catch you out there. I just saw an Instagram post from my Wing that’s using the ATC badge on its own. Given we’ve had multiple emails from OC Wing and WMCO you’d think they’d get their own stuff sorted first, but apparently not!

No white background or unit number idents 🫨🫨
