RAF Syerston - Transit Accommodation

Hello all you flyer types… Is there any bookable accommodation at RAF Syerston? I’m doing a paddling orientation nearby over the weekend in a couple of weeks time and wondered if it’s a good option for a bed for the night.

Obviously I don’t have a growbag so will be easily identifiable on site as a nonbeliever :wink:

There’s no accommodation at Syerston. Cranwell is your best bet.

Booo…thanks anyway. Cranwell and PWOG are 40+ minutes in the wrong direction unfortunately.

I thought you would be wild camping next to the river to be at one with nature? That’s what you AT types do isn’t it? :wink:

Isn’t that what the camper van is for?

Well yes, that is the baseline position - if there were any campsites open nearby! Didn’t fancy layby camping :slight_smile:

Chetwyn Barracks anywhere nearer? Mean bunking with the pongos but worth a shout.

Technically RAF Syerston’s officers mess is still standing, and is only across the A46…

Facilities are a bit poor though. Definitely no longer bookable.

However there is still the possibility of a wakeup call, just in the form of a bulldozer…

@Keeny

I was told by wittering that syerston accommodation would be option when taking a cadet trip to wittering etc.

Maybe in a few years time :crossed_fingers:t2:

Wait….did this not happen then?

Im sure i saw the opening all over socials at somepoint.

When I used to glide as a cadet, we stayed in Raf newton when it was around. Glory days. We would occasionally get given the phys hanger all to our selves!

God no, turned over a turf was about it then quietly shelved. Like all the 2fts infrastructure plans from 2014 to 2019 just rolling around in the long grass.

Unless at LR then its 2 Sqn worth of infra investment completed just before merging them to one :no_good_woman:
