Does anyone know the best way to go about organising a session on an assault course one evening? Hoping to be able to take our lot to RAF Leeming sometime over the summer to give their assault course and high ropes course a go but not sure who the best person to speak to us with regards to organising it, as would need instructors etc.
in terms of the course itself Iād speak to the ACLO, they should be able to get you in contact with the right person to at least open the gate.
for approval to do the activity youāll need to do an AT application, but best to warn your WATTO in advance that it is coming his way, particularly if this is the first time for you/the Sqn/his approval for such an event
instructors can come from within the ACOā¦SPA i believe is the qualification for High Ropes, so ask around local Sqns for qualified persons, or your WATTO, but they will need i suspect some āfamiliarisationā course on site to know the local rules and layout etc to be on the Stationās list of "leaders"
else youāre looking at the RAF/Station instructorsā¦which requires more paperwork as youāll need to ask them for soft copies of their certificate to attach to the AT application to prove they are qualified.
that is what i understand based on how our Wing operates, i await further comments from others to add as they see fit
Weāve used these at recent camps as part of the general programme. I think a chat with ACLO would be best as they have all the RAs and no doubt certs for station staff qualified to use / instruct on it.
So far Iāve not seen a fully populated SMS activity submission for annual camps.
The qualification required is Obstacle Course Instructor (OCI) - listed in the āproperā JSP535 rather than the red card version. Valid for three years.
What Iām not sure is if there are any courses ATC personnel can do. Might be worth asking your local ACF, if you want to be able to run it yourselves, if they have any spare places on courses. Or indeed ask them to help run itā¦
