Presumably that would be senior cadets with platinum fieldcraft PTS badges?
That’s what JLs are getting surely? Or is that Diamond?
Presumably that’s only because JLs can’t be the gold standard for leadership and fieldcraft at the same time?
To be fair, the 2IC role is much more admin focussed anyway, so if you can boss 2IC, then your fieldcraft admin is sorted, AND the section’s is sorted. So that’s the gold standard for fieldcraft.
As pointed out, Leadership is assessed separately.
We wanted it released at a different time of year but there have been a lot of delays and we didn’t want to hold it any more, it was either release in April or push to October. The syllabus won’t stop people doing fieldcraft really over the summer and I think this year Wing and Region fieldcraft people sould be pragmatic in their application of the system.
I’m already seeing that some areas have ‘paused’ Fieldcraft until this comes out, so we are a bit on the back foot.
I’m sure most FCOs will be pragmatic but maybe those behind the policy need to reassure the FCO community that that is okay?
Is there a grace period built in, to allow a gradual transition, or is it effective immediately on release?
We’ve been waiting for this to arrive “soon” for 2 years and not unskilled any new FCIs in that time, not great for new staff who wanted to get involved.
Sorry, I’m not convinced that section 2IC is the pinnacle of fieldcraft.
I dunno, the ability to manage your own personal admin and everyone else’s is pretty much all I want of a cadet.
Where else would you go for Gold?
Considering what you have to do for gold flying, DofE, shooting, music, etc, I’d say stage 5 field firing platoon attacks.
More realistically, it should at least include something along the lines of OPs, close target recce, fighting patrols, ambushes, etc.
But, as mentioned above, just leading one of those is Gold for Leadership.
And those are not Fieldcraft, they’re tactics.
General fieldcraft syllabus is 2 I/C. JL then makes them a section commander.
I suppose. The two were never split out in my training: it was all just combat infantrymanship.
That will all be in the IBN including instructor qualification mappings etc
So if we have cadets who double hat cadet forces & passes SCIC which qualifies them as a section commander - can that be recognised as silver or even gold part1?
People need to calm down. It’s only a matter of time before there’s an announcement to say there’s no money for fieldcraft and cadets will be encouraged to play Call of Duty instead.
Wouldn’t be allowed without a workstation assessment and SAAI supervising.
That’s a specific point you would want to ask in the Teams channel.
Bit more to it than that I’m afraid. They’d need at least Silver Cyber because online is a risk. And COD has maps, so that’s a NNA or a BEL or lowland leader CFAV as a minimum to supervise. And someone with AFA in case of casualties.
