Hi there, I was wondering if anyone new any examples of people skipping a rank, ie Cpl to Flight Sergeant or cadet to Cpl? I highly doubt there is any out there but may as well ask.
I have know promotions direct to Cpl jumping over JCpl / LCpl.
Not heard of any other skipping although you could do Cpl to FS but that would be very unusual.

Most of the RAFAC doesn’t have LCpl - only the CCF(RAF) so they align with Army.
Sgt to CWO used to be a thing - when it was age based. But not common.
I was assuming Op was CCF as they gave the example of cadet to Cpl.
Just because the ATC doesn’t use it doesn’t meant that LCpl isn’t a RAFAC Rank ![]()
It’s also been an RAF rank since 2010. For some reason, it’s curently RAF Regt only: but it would be very useful in RAFP and the intelligence profession.
On a sqn I was on as a cadet I did see a Cadet Sergeant go straight to Cadet Warrant Officer, so it does happen but exceptionally rare.
Used to be late entry cadets who didn’t quite have the time to get to FS but wanted to stay in past 20/18 when the review came in.
Amazing how many in the ATC still think CCF have JCpls - not since 2010 IIRC. Maybe 2011. Pretty much immediately after the RAF Regt introduced LCpl, anyway.
Can we have L/Cpls?
